After some chewing and swallowing, Kazunari looks contemplatively at sols bowl. "Omimi, did you know the guy who invented cornflakes did it to stop people masturbating?"
The whole scene is just like Kazunari—a terribly simple meal, a ridiculous fun fact, charming and smart all the same. It makes Omi smile. Kazunari often makes him smile. "No, I didn't know."

Kasumi is suddenly aware of their proximity; of their location, tucked away in this corner. Aware she’d admitted her attraction and Syu had asked for more. Aware the night isn’t over yet, and it glimmers with possibilities she’d never thought to consider.

“It’s okay. I’m sorry.”
“No more apologies. I mean,” Banri starts again, “I don't remember much about making teruteru bozu as a kid either, but we can make them together when we get back. I know I’m not, like, your parents so it's not the same, but if you wanted to learn.”
It’s not really about the teruteru bozu, but the offer isn’t really about that, either. Banri trying to cheer him up means more than Sakuya can express. “I’d love to,” Sakuya says, his chest warm and gooey. “Thank you.”

Nami wakes up to Sanji making the crew breakfast. (Set shortly after OPLA S1.)
Across from her, Sanji is pretending to wipe down the spots of grease on his counter. He’s got the rag and all, but his hand has long stilled; what he’s really doing is watching Nami, his face openly hopeful for approval. Maybe even praise, if miracles really do happen. His visible eye meets hers shamelessly when she glares up at him.
“Do you like it?”
The way Nami’s nearly inhaled her plate should be answer enough. She refuses to feed his ego by saying it out loud. “Quit staring.”
He must know she enjoyed it; his smile grows wider. He’s always smiling, like a damn Cheshire cat. “My apologies. You’re so beautiful I couldn’t take my eyes off you.”

Stage crew are meant to go unnoticed. All lights point towards the stage, so it’s not hard to melt into the shadows. Costumes catch in the light; makeup keeps actors looking vibrant. Of course everyone looks towards where it’s brightest, even the actors themselves. They were first to fall in love with the spotlight, after all. With eyes on their love, not all remember the shadows, and fewer try to understand them.

Mafuyu doesn't care. Not really. This strange world might be made from her own emotions, but it had appeared as it pleased, brought Miku with it, added objects and backgrounds and brought Mafuyu into it as it pleased. It only makes sense that it would change without care for what she thought.
She doesn’t have any thoughts about it anyway. At least, when she asks herself how she feels about her tiny world expanding, she has nothing to respond with. Most of the time she feels nothing. Other times it feels warm. Other times it hurts.

Aigis does not really understand the need to adhere to human customs. Human customs, human rituals, human feelings. She was made in the image of man for combat, but there is nothing else as far as she is concerned. But Ryoji, on the other hand, smiles and flirts and gossips. He laughs and cries and wears a bright yellow scarf even though it’s against uniform regulation. She does not understand the way he revels in the act of being human.

And the lull remained. The sand settled, clearing the sky. Everyone had found a place to hide and be still. Even with all those children that’d been running around, there wasn’t a single sound apart from the wind. It was so quiet it felt like the end of the world.
A single scream was what broke it.
It was a guttural sound, somehow strained and full at the same time. I can’t describe it. The sound lingered in the air, overflowing with feeling — pain and sorrow and gratitude that had had nowhere else to go. It sounded like the confession of a dying man; the one chance he had left to say goodbye, and thank you.

To punctuate this, she poked Phenny. Phenny roared obediently, and Emu let out her best evil laugh.
A smug look came over Pegasus’ face. “I see my reputation precedes me! What is your quest, Overseer?”
“To bring a smile to all of Phoenix Wonderland!”
Pegasus stopped looking smug. He looked at Emu, who had her hands on her hips. At Phenny, who sat pawing at the ground. At the guards, who seemed more like babysitters. Then he turned his heel and began to walk away.
