Near their company, at least, his unbelonging barely hurts.It’s strange that Maxwell doesn’t move from his side. Instead he lowers himself onto harsh rock and tucks his chin onto one knee. Torse doesn’t quite understand what makes Max stay, when his friend must surely be enticed into exploration by the scenery, until he follows Maxwell’s gaze.
Max is looking up, beyond the bioluminescence and into cloudless night, eyes darting around until they steady, dilating, and his intent expression melts into awe. Like he was searching for and finally found… Oh.
Torse hadn’t realized they were so far vex.
