Shane shoved a forkful of salad into his mouth with one hand while flipping Ilya the bird with the other. “If you have to be an asshole, can you at least be more original?”
“What do you mean?” Ilya said innocently, digging into his burger and fries on the sofa across from Shane.
“I mean you tried that line the last ad campaign we were shooting, and it was just as annoying then as it is now.”
Ilya shrugged one shoulder, eating three curly fries at a time. “From what I remember it nearly ended up in shower sex then we fucked in hotel. So I would say it worked, no?”
“Dude!” Shane darted his eyes around the green room as if people had somehow magically appeared in the last five seconds as a gotcha.
“Relax, Hollander, we are alone. Don’t be so boring.”
Or: Hollander is boring. Rozanov is an asshole. 5 times Shane and Ilya deluded themselves about the underlying nature of their name-calling over the years, and 1 time they didn't.

"This is way too big." Shane stretches the leather out; it is wide and thick, with a sturdy metal clasp and multiple rings that he can't guess the use for. Anya is his first pet, but he's pretty sure only one needed to clip a leash to? He fingers one of the rings with a frown.
Ilya laughs. He's always able to tell what Shane is thinking. "It's not for Anya."

In the quietest of times, Shane could admit he shouldn’t have felt lonely at the top because Ilya was always right there with him. Sometimes he took solace in that, sometimes it brought pain so blinding he couldn’t breathe.

Truly, their son was a testament to the quality of both their character’s–Shane’s soft underbelly nurtured by his father’s patient tone and earnest gaze and his shrewdness and talent sharpened by his mother’s fierce mettle. Shane was the sum of his parent’s parts, yet entirely his own, and Ilya was very grateful to the tender, yet firm, hands that had shaped the man he loved.
