“Welcome, friends,” Gwaine declaimed sombrely, lifting his shotglass in a toast, “to the last night of our dear Merlin’s bachelorhood.”
“I’m not a bachelor,” Merlin complained. “I’ve had a boyfriend for months. I’ve got a fiancé.”
“Last night of freedom, then,” Gwaine said, unperturbed. “Drink up, Merlin, it’s a big moment.”
As he spoke, the music died away and the band started to play what was unmistakably a punk rock cover of the Wedding March.

For months now they've been casually meeting in the lobby of their building, and Merlin's been harbouring a (totally not creepy and perfectly normal and not at all pathetic) crush on his neighbour, Arthur. As luck would have it, they both suddenly find themselves on their own for Christmas, and well… They say there's nothing like a bit of holiday cheer to bring people together. (And pancakes. And toys. And no matter what Arthur says peppermint tea is a legitimate thing. Also cake.)

Summary
Merlin's practically done for tonight, but this last cubicle needs to be cleaned, and the junior manager occupying it is still working, even though it’s way past 9:00 p.m. Merlin should probably just dust around him or ask him to move, but the problem is that talking to people tends to make Merlin lose it. And Merlin really doesn't need to fall apart before the end of his shift.
