"Hear me out! Please!" Seonghwa screamed, his hands shaking and tears rolling down the side of his face. The Demon's clawed hand came down. "Let's make a deal! Please!"
It suddenly stopped within a few inches of his face. Seonghwa gasped deeply, his body jolting from the inhale, and stared wide-eyed at the long, sharp talons that were so close to poking his eyes.
The Demon tilted his head, curious, and a deep rumble erupted from within his chest.
"You really annoy me with your persistence," he chuckled, sighing, "You have nothing to offer me. You're dead either way, darling."
"I can offer in doses to make up for it!" Seonghwa gasped, eyes not moving from the claws coming close to stabbing into his face. "I-I can do that, right?"
The Demon hummed in thought for a minute.
Seonghwa flinched when the claws suddenly moved away, and he felt like he could breathe properly.
"We make a blood pact, then. You offer me your blood, and I will offer the protection you requested in return." He moved his hand before him and purred, "Deal?"
"Deal," Seonghwa whispered, taking his hand.

Hongjoong barely turned his head. His body had already made the decision before his mind could catch up.
There was no time.
Ki-woo was right there, straight ahead, blocking the road, gun still raised, aiming right for Seonghwa—
Hongjoong gritted his teeth. Fuck it.
He floored it.
The car lurched forward, engine roaring as the speedometer climbed. The guy’s face twisted from rage to something else entirely—panic—just as he realized Hongjoong wasn’t swerving. He fired another desperate shot, but it went wide—his grip faltering as he hesitated, as the headlights swallowed him whole.
“Hold on!” Hongjoong barked, though it was unnecessary. Seonghwa was already gripping the door handle, his body thrown sideways by the impact.
The front of the car slammed into him full force. His body folded over the hood, the gun clattering from his hand before he was tossed like a ragdoll, rolling over the windshield, limbs flailing—
And then—
Under.
The sickening, deep crunch of metal meeting bone as the tires lifted and dropped.

“Seonghwa,” Hongjoong finally says, and the older man immediately sits straighter, his shoulders squared and breath held so tightly, like he’s afraid of making a noise.
“Y-yes?”
Hongjoong speaks more apologetically than he intended to, “I can’t do it.”
Seonghwa’s breath is released with the drop of his shoulders, his eyebrows furrowed in sudden discontent as though the letdown is the worst thing he’s ever heard in his entire life. “Why?” The word catches onto some desperation, and Hongjoong has to swallow the lump in his throat to give him an honest answer.
"I’m not rejecting you. I just can’t take you until you’re ready. But you’ll do your research, won’t you? If you really want to help me, then this is how you can help,” Hongjoong finalizes, and then he leaves Seonghwa to his own thoughts as he steps out his seat and disappears out the door.
