Whatever Kaidan had been expecting from the Butcher of Torfan, this isn’t it.
There’s nothing krogan-like about the soldier sitting at the table. The lethal gaze from the vids is watery and unfocused. The empty bottle in his hand isn’t a gun, but he clutches it like one. Summary
Wolf looks better on his knees than anywhere else.
Wolf looks the same as always; expectant. A little bit ragged. Genichiro just likes to see him there, prostrated and obedient.
It isn’t revelatory in the way Genichiro expects— Genichiro isn’t the one who put him there, and instead of the rush of victory, there is only a hollow feeling in his chest. Wolf is looking up at him from the ground, something almost derisive simmering in his eyes. They glow in the half-light, eerie and golden. They’re inhuman.
They’re beautiful.
“I am at your service, my lord.”
It isn’t sneering, but it’s close.
It is what Genichiro wants, but they’ve both taken too much from one another for this to be anything but sullen.
“Are you, shinobi?” Genichiro asks, his lip curled. Wolf is still holding his gaze, hands on his thighs, shoulders back.
“Anything you need,” is what Wolf says.
Anything you are too weak to do yourself, is what Genichiro hears.
He needs Wolf to save Ashina; it tastes sour in his mouth, but he will swallow it to keep his lands safe. He has swallowed worse than this bitterness.
He has given up more than his pride.

Summary
As the new Lord Commander, Jon only wants to do the right thing: save thousands from the certain grip of the Night King's cold hands. Though some of the brothers don't agree, they weren't the ones who spent time with the Free Folk. Perhaps travelling to Hardhome will be difficult, but Tormund has agreed to help him.
Freed and allowed to go anywhere on the ship despite the unease of Stannis’ men, and the brothers of the Watch, Tormund sits next to him on bundles of rope, looking like a great bear sunbathing. When they first met, Jon had thought Tormund an indomitable but handsome man and not much has changed since.

It started as a joke. A friendly ribbing between former rivals that had legs, most frequently deployed in exasperation at one of his more unorthodox strategies. He had his own barbs, of course, but none as consistent as his partner’s assertion that he was a terrible spy.
He doesn’t know when it changed. When the words started to convey other things besides annoyance, good-natured or otherwise. Once he realizes it, though, he starts paying attention. That’s not to say he understands everything that’s behind the words. He can’t, or won’t, let himself consider it too carefully. Not for a while, anyway.

Geralt tosses a doublet unceremoniously at Jaskier, who squawks and scrambles to catch it before it can fall to the floor. Geralt stills, then, and turns to face Jaskier with a pinched expression. “Doesn’t matter to me if you’re noble or not,” he says in a low tone. “You’re still Jaskier. Still annoying; still unshakable.”
Jaskier looks down at the doublet in his hands to hide the way his cheeks burn as relief trickles down his spine. “Oh, well, as long as I’m still annoying,” he says.
