With practiced ease, Tubbo split his hair into three sections, twisting them into a loose braid that would hopefully last the night and keep Ranboo’s hair out of his face while he slept. Ranboo was practically boneless in his hands, slumped against the bed and half asleep already. He probably didn’t even notice the purrs that he was making.
“Isn’t that better?” Tubbo asked, tying off the braid with the same ribbon that Ranboo had been fighting with all day until he found the hair tie that he had been using.

The pair falls silent, the only sound being crayons scratching on paper and the slight rattle of the windows from the wind blowing through the snowy hills outside. Then, Ranboo’s tail flicks slightly in what Tommy is slowly coming to recognize as anxiety.
“It’s because we just... don’t? I-I don’t know.” Ranboo pinches his brow with his fingers.
“We didn’t want a wedding because we didn’t—” he falls silent for a moment before gently moving a hand over Michael’s lone ear. “We didn’t exactly have anyone to come to the wedding. You included.” Ranboo tilts his head affectionately towards Michael, who was still scribbling away at his coloring book.
“It was just us for a while.”

He wasn’t supposed to be like this. He was meant to be a lazy afternoon in the middle of spring, grass pulled free from the soil and thrown over their arms and legs. He was meant to be questions at 4am and sleepovers, his hand tightly wound in Ranboo’s as he whispered secrets to him no one had ever bothered to learn before. He was honey on toast, he was the glow in the dark stars in Michael’s bedroom.
But right now, Tubbo was none of those things. He was a wounded animal – a fawn with bullet holes piercing its newborn breast, the waning moon its only witness as it decomposed in the weeds.
Ranboo felt his stomach constrict, his tongue tasting more and more like tar as the seconds collapsed to nothing.
