The year is 2025. Five years ago, a deadly disease was released worldwide that reanimates the dead and turns them into flesh eating corpses. Once bitten, you turn into one them. First comes the fever. Then comes death. Then the reanimation.
The news will tell you to stay inside. Don't listen. They will tell you to go to an evacuation center. Don't go. They will tell to stay in large groups to ensure safety. That's not always the case. No place is safe, only safer.
Either you survive or you die. Or else you're left for dead.

“Did you know my family is cursed?” Tetsurou asks suddenly, because he does sometimes want Kenma’s attention, in spite of everything else.
He is rewarded by the smaller boy glancing up again and the stilling of his quill.
“My brother’s going to have to get married twice,” Tetsurou tells him, “and no one is sure who it’s gonna be. But he’s definitely getting married soon. I have to get all kinds of new clothes for it and the tailor always sticks me because he doesn’t like me.”
“Maybe that’s just because you squirm…”
“I’m a very well-behaved child. Everyone says so.”
“I don’t say that,” Kenma points out and resumes his writing practice.

Shouyou and Kenma both wish for peace.
Tooru wants revenge for what happened to Hajime's family and Shigeru offers to help.
Daichi participates for the sake of his family while Hitoka tries to take that away from him.
And Koutarou only wishes for an escape from his normal life.

A cure for Ghoulism is found, but it's not as perfect as it seems. After Hide is injured from defending the ghouls-turned-humans, Tsukiyama offers his help to Kaneki which leads them to a secluded safe haven away from all the trouble. Though the three of them have achieved safety, it's hard to fully enjoy it knowing what's happening in Tokyo.
