Simon looked at his hand.
Ryland realized he was supposed to shake it.
They shook hands and Simon noticed that Ryland's hands were soft, with long fingers and a little cold. A spark of something traveled up his arm as he looked into those blue eyes before Ryland quickly looked away a flash of red creeping across his face.
Simon noticed thinking ‘Oh. He's cute cute.’
At the exact same time Ryland thought ‘Oh he already hates me’

Maybe it’s the fact that it’s been a full month and he is no closer to Bianca than he was when Percy handed him that stupid figurine. Maybe it’s just because he’s barely eleven, and he’s already had to fight so much. He’s tired. He wants a home, and a bed, and sister to go back to. He wants someone to miss him, while he lives like this. To know it’s worth it because in the end there will be someone there for him, to hug him and tell him it’s going to be okay.
He wants Bianca back.
He cries himself to sleep, tucked up and small as his body convulses but he keeps quiet, shivering in the cold and wishing he had some sort of answer.
He is only eleven.

Golden eyes travel from the grand throne room out through the window, settling comfortably on the landscape. The setting sun glittered on the river rolling through the hills and off the cliffs. A girl longed to be out with the singing birds in the sky, free from gravity and all that binds humans to the ground.

The rhythmic sound of heavy boots meeting marble echoes through the dark halls.
The space echoed of a time before. A time with light, a time with joy. Once, before the princess left, the palace was always warm and full, bustling with life. Laughter could be heard in every wing.
Footsteps continue to fill the hall, filling the air as if they belonged. As if they had never left. The legs knew the marble, knew the paths. They remembered how cold it got, how empty. They recognized the overwhelming darkness, the sharp silence, as if waiting to pounce. They felt the pressure, the memories of all those who had strode the halls. They itched to leave, to return from whence they came, yet they accepted their fate.
