Summary
And there’s the other thing—it’s Lance. It’s only Lance. It’s only ever been Lance.
Lance smiles a little, softly, sweetly, and then lifts his hand to Keith’s jaw, his fingertips light, smiling up at Keith through his dark lashes. “Are you okay enough for this?” he asks.
Keith considers the question. “How am I supposed to know?”
"When you can say, “yes,” with great confidence, and mean it," Lance says, smiling, his eyes crinkling warmly.
“I don’t get it,” Keith says, softly, glancing at the blue crescents on Lance’s cheeks, "I don’t get how you’re so fine. You always seemed so fine.”
Lance searches Keith’s eyes for a moment. “I wasn’t. You just didn’t see that part.”
- - - -
Following a devastating error in leadership, Keith finds himself suspended and Earth-bound, untethered as he attempts to outrun the weight of his grief--and suddenly rekindled desire, as a perfectly well-adjusted Lance re-enters his life.

Summary
“I don’t want you dead.” Keith says, softening some, his eyes resting momentarily on a fleck of dried blood on Lance’s temple. He doesn’t say it, but he’s fairly certain Lance makes out that what Keith really means is, I’d have given up that whole outpost just to keep you in one piece. He adds, “you saved a lot of lives.”
“Speak for yourself,” Lance replies, meeting Keith’s eyes at last, with that same, raw, weighted gaze, his eyes languid pools of blue.
And Keith finally discerns this new expression—it’s yearning. Uselessly, without conviction, Keith says, "I don't think I forgive you."
Yearning, Keith thinks, longing. Something.
Lance exhales, heavy and slow, and pulls Keith in a little closer.
...
After nearly a decade spent in the tumult of vacuous space, Keith and Lance find themselves trying to navigate the newly reciprocated, spindly feeling between them, with the added challenge of trying to disentangle the ways that circumstance and time have altered them--have altered Lance, into a jaded whisper of his old self.

Summary
“Why don’t you hang out with me anymore?” Lance asks, small. His chin lowers halfway to his chest, but he keeps his gaze stubbornly ahead. “We’re stuck doing this trip, and this is the first time since way before you left for the Blade that we’re actually spending time together. I’ve been sneaking out of camp to fuck around the entire time we’ve been travelling and this is the first time you’ve even noticed.”
“It’s not the first time I’ve noticed,” Keith says—how could he not have? “I just thought you wanted to be alone.”
“Yeah, but, like, with you.” Lance mumbles. “That was our whole thing. Just…” Lance reaches up to rub at the flesh of his neck, “can we be friends again? Like before?”
“Yes,” Keith says, quickly, unthinking. “And for what it’s worth, I never thought I was better than you.”
“You were,” Lance replies, softly. “But we’re better matched now.”

Summary
Lance swallows, feeling almost stupid all of a sudden. He whispers, sticking his hand out past the threshold of his porch, “it’s raining.”
There’s the sound of shuffling over the phone, the creak of metal curtain rings on their rod. Keith says, “it’s not over here.”
Lance covers his eyes with his hand; he doesn’t mean to tear up, doesn’t mean to choke on the simple fact that maybe Keith was so torn up about everything because he was worn thin as Lance through the silence, through the strange longing in that gap between them. “You’ve gotta hear me out, Keith. I’m asking you,” he murmurs, “please.”
“You’re not going to see me again,” Keith says, like it doesn't tear Lance apart to hear, "enjoy the rain. Goodnight, Lance."

Summary
"Let's review; you have had feelings for Keith—"
“I just! I thought it was just jealousy! Or I— admired him, or something! And then I just! Bam, realize it's him!” Lance drops his hands to his lap, “and now… And now, Hunk, I think…”
He thinks, I love him.
And he supposes that's it; that's all it's ever been. Because all Lance can think about is the hand at his neck, those nebula-violet eyes spilling starlight into his soul, the ring still in Keith’s ear.
He wants to say, you’re beautiful. Aches to say, I want to be worth your love. Worth you staying.
If there is one thing he will take with him from this life, it will be the face of the boy he has only just found he has come to love.

Summary
Keith pauses and looks up at Lance, the cold material of the door digging into his back. He sets Lance with a meaningful smile, and Lance reaches out to brush his knuckles against Keith’s shoulder. The movement is far too tender to be a punch, but it knocks the air out of Keith all the same.
“‘Til death do us part.”
“And then some,” Keith amends, “it’ll take more than just death to drag me away from you.”
A laugh pulls from Lance's throat and he smiles, glow-in-the-dark stars glittering in his irises.
Their souls have conjoined across centuries, and Keith thinks that that's just how the universe meant for them to fit.

Summary
“My Abuela said it,” Silvio insists. “She said you have to wear the hat, because you have a pale ass so you’re going to get skin cancer and die before Lance even wakes up.”
Keith looks between the children and the hat, too confused to glare, sweaty and horrid from pulling weeds beneath the scorching sun. “What?”
“That’s wrong,” Nadia complains, and yanks her brother down to her level to whisper the correction in his ear.
“Ooh,” Silvio amends. “Tía Veronica said you have a pale ass. My Abuela said you’re gonna die.”

When Lance is fatally wounded during their final battle, the blue lion enters a deep hibernation with Lance inside. Unsure when or if he’ll wake, Keith is forced to wait and watch over him in the company of the people he fears most: Lance’s family.

Summary
Six months in, he leans his elbows on the railing and looks at you thoughtfully. “What do you think of Grimshaw?”
You know to be honest with him by now so you say, “He’s a useless twat.”
He hums. A moment’s silence. Then he says, “Izzy, Izzy,” in that slightly comical sing-song he sometimes does when he is in one of his strange moods. “Will you get rid of him for me?”
You will.

Summary
Keith's time in the abyss is creeping closer to an end, and he's practically vibrating out of his skin in anticipation to get back to the team. He can't imagine what's going on with them, what state the war is in after two whole years. He also doesn't expect that it hasn't actually been two years for the team.

Summary
Keith and Lance wake up married. In the future.
He lays there a moment, processing the faint throbbing in his head, a strange bitter taste like lemons in his mouth. When he opens his eyes, the room spins wildly into a kaleidoscope of colors, so he closes them again, breathing in and out until he feels less like he might throw up. He suddenly registers a warm weight over his waist, and lifts his head to see a brown arm thrown over him. It looks startlingly familiar, but different, bigger than he remembers, more toned.
Keith turns all the way around and comes face to face with Lance sleepily blinking his own eyes open.
