Summary
Guiding Emmrich up the last few stairs, Monty marveled at the softness of his skin, and the shifting of the bones below. Emmrich’s hands were cool to the touch. The chilliness made Monty want to clasp them both between his own and kiss warmth into them. Startled by the thought, Monty let go of Emmrich’s hand and clasped his own treacherous digits behind his back. Standing before the balcony he inclined his head for Emmrich to step out first.
He did, and gasped, “Remarkable.”
Monty stood beside him watching color and light illuminate the roiling fog of the fade. Some of the electric shocks were shaped like sparkles and others flashed like bolts of lightning. Each impressed itself as bright images on Monty’s eyes. They flashed in all the colors Monty could name and some he couldn’t.

“[Mike] opened his mouth to reply but had to pause as nausea took hold of him. He swallowed thickly against the acidic feeling in his chest, against the bile that stung at the back of his throat.
Alison squinted up at him. “Mike? Are you alright?”
There were bright spots upon his vision. He tried to blink them away.
“I’m fine, why?”
“You’ve sort of—” Alison chewed at her lip, concerned. “Well, you’ve sort of got—”
“Good heavens, why can’t I move?” a deep, clipped voice asked. Mike looked over his shoulder, bewildered. Where the hell had that come from?”
Mike gets possessed by the Captain, who cannot seem to figure out his newly discovered power. Trapped together in one body, they must learn to co-exist. Not getting in each other’s way proves to be impossible, however.
