Needed to read more after watching episode 5 of the anime, and was pleasantly surprised to find this. This is the first time I felt I could actually picture the scenario playing out in my head, and that goes to show how they were written true to their characters. Nice read!

Stayed up until 4 am to read this, that says everything you need to know. Each and every character was so intriguingly characterised, and cleverly filled in so many blanks left in canon. From James being a little menace as a child, to his obsession with Severus, to spiralling into absolutely unhinged territory, his progression into darkness made perfect sense, especially in the context of the prank and Snape's Worst Memory. It really conveys how items such as the Invisibility Cloak and the Marauders' Map, while used by Harry for more noble reasons, could just as well have been used for stalking, harassment and even a as a murder weapon.
Severus is the victim, and yet, his actions are portrayed not as the perfect person who takes everything give to him, but as a flawed person who lashes out and desperately tries to gain control over his own fate. The possibility that James had a part in his descent into the path of a Death Eater is really well put, and puts into perspective just how hopelessly alone he was throughout his time at Hogwarts. It is sad but endearing. Meanwhile, this story also made me feel for Lily and think of her quite affectionately, despite her adamant ignorance and dismissal of Severus' struggles. She is clearly under a lot of pressure from everyone around her, and her initial thought process was so typical of a teenage girl that it hurt to see her deviate so far from 'Sev's Lily.' Even characters such as Lucius, Regulus and Sirius add new light into our perspective of the war.
My favourite part in this was actually the artist. He provides a really interesting outsiders' perspective on the happenings within the story, and I find him relatable in both his romantic fixation on Severus and his inherent cowardice.

This is a wonderful, romantic, hilarious rom-com that made me adore Tom Riddle and resonate with both their characters. From Myrtle's dramatic wailing and complaining to her evident stubbornness and empathy in dealing with Tom, to Tom's edgy inner dialogue calling himself 'Lord Voldemort' but slowly giving up his murderous tendencies when it comes to love, the story incredibly captures the picture of both of them being simply teenagers. I, too, hold the belief that little actions can change the entire course of a narrative. In this case, it is a friend. It is a person who sticks around and talks to you about gossip and perfectly normal things. And it is beautiful that Myrtle teaches him so much, altering his perspective about Muggles and the magical world, soothing him over his mother's death and practically turning his world upside-down. It is also beautiful that Tom sees her beauty, not because she becomes conventionally attractive, but because he loves her for who she is.

This feels soft, really soft. Not in the way where it's filled with never-ending fluff, but in the way that it builds up quietly yet surely. This writer has a nice way of building up details about the characters, and you can really understand the environment James grew up in (as a rich spoiled kid), how easy it actually is for political propaganda to sway someone towards the Death Eaters, the violent and reckless tendencies of Sirius, and how it's so much easier for Severus to just hide from the world. It's wonderful that we could see James genuinely maturing and starting to understand that what he was feeling was guilt, and change his mindset about Slytherins. The images of Severus letting him in, listening to music together and eventually falling asleep in each other's arms is so fluffy! I also had a soft spot for Lily and Severus reconnecting again, and James getting jealous :)

One of the more iconic Jeverus fics out there - explores the nuance within James, Severus and even Lily (no blindly loving or bashing her) quite insightfully! There are no black and white characters, each has their faults and strengths which shine depending on their environment. Forgiveness will never be easy (and may never be given, as the past will never be erased), but one must still try their best to become a better person and better their actions regardless. This applied to both the Marauders' bullying and Severus being a bystander to his housemates' bullying of Muggleborns, which was really great to see + the fact that they decided to fight the war not for the Order of the Phoenix or Dumbledore (whose manipulation and moral greyness was evident), but for themselves. The progression to friendship and love was so real too, where it was not a perfect, linear thing but rather one with real, raw emotions that resurfaced whenever Severus thought James might be making fun of him or judging him again. Ultimately, it was so sweet that James' love for him was genuine and unconditional, and the fact that he was so open about it, never wanting to hide his adoration from the world. They both deserve happiness after what they've been through :)

A successful exploration into not only the main characters' thoughts and feelings, but those around them through multiple insightful perspectives. The buildup of romantic tension, coupled with guilt, was nicely done. I liked how the events unfolded - how their choice to work together in many scenarios led to more favourable events, such as Horcruxes being destroyed without the trio going on a hunt, Harry finding out more about Lily, Draco turning to the Order, understanding Regulus... and the fact that Sirius' faith in Severus continued even after Dumbledore's death. They shined light on many underrated characters as well. Pleasant surprise!

Each chapter had me SCREAMING despite never having read about this pairing before. Such an eye-opening portrayal of how sickening parental abuse is - how it hides itself behind a perfectly charming facade to outsiders. So many little details and foreshadowing that keeps you on edge. I loved how intelligent and calculated Severus was about both the debt and murder, painting that he was not just a victim, but a highly capable individual. The initial characterisations and internal conflicts were very accurate, leading to authentic character growths and revelations which were so intricately laid out that I wouldn't even have minded it without the romance. Of course, the endgame relationship was a sweet cherry on top that made all of it feel worth it!
