“What the hell did you do, Michael?”
Michael blinked at him, startled.
“Cuz I was dead.” David’s voice sharpened. “We were dead. Burned, staked, drowned. And now…” He gestured around them — the neon, the crowd, the same night replaying itself. “We’re standing here like none of it ever happened. So, tell me, what the hell did you do?”
Michael’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. His heartbeat thundered in his ears.
“I—I don’t…” he stammered, backing up a half-step. “I don’t know, David, I just.......I rode out to the hotel....I screamed until my throat bled. I told you I was sorry. I begged you to forgive me.” His fingers shook as he spoke, his eyes glassy. “And then…Everything went dark, and when I woke up.....I was in the car again. Back at the start. Like none of it happened.”
The silence that followed was heavy, drawn tight.
Paul exhaled slowly. “So… you wished us back?”
“I didn’t mean to!” Michael said quickly. “I didn’t even know I could!"

“It’s just about practice,” David says slowly. “And I can give you that.”
“What do you mean?” Michael asks. He’s turned back to face David. A promising sign.
“I mean, you can practice. On me.” He bares his teeth, bites at the empty air, and turns it into a winning smile. Angles his face to the side and jerks a thumb at his own neck. “Maybe it’ll help, to get a feel for it first. Might make the real thing easier.”
“Yeah, right,” Michael says unsteadily. “It’s your blood that got me into this mess in the first place.”
His eyes are locked on David’s neck, though. David can see his throat working as he swallows hard. There’re the logical objections, and then there’s what even the mention of blood can conjure up for them. Logic doesn’t really stand a chance.
“So what’s the harm in a little more?” David says casually.

"I told you I'd never let you fall, Michael," He said close to Michael's ear. He didn't get a response, not that he expected one. That's okay. There was plenty of time for them to talk. For Michael to come to terms with what he was.
There would be time for Star, too. Michael would like that, to have Star with them. David never, ever, doubted that Star would be better off as a vampire. She could and would be happy. Michael was going to be happy. David and the guys would make sure of it.

There really was no easy way to say it: Theo should be dead. He lives in his truck, barely even eats, gets on average two hours of sleep every night, runs solely on that coffee from that diner that he shouldn’t keep going to but will because the owner there at least seems like she cares, and Theo doesn’t have a lot of people who do that, so he’ll take what he can get. Basically, what Theo’s getting at is that there is no reason in the fucking world that he should be alive right now.

He felt his stomach turn as he got out and sat against the side of his truck, looking out into the preserve. Why did the Sheriff even offer him a job? Theo knew that what the Sheriff had said wasn’t true—that some of the pack had already forgiven him. The pack didn’t give a fuck about Theo, and that was fine. After everything he did, he’d be concerned if the pack cared, because that meant that eventually someone would come along, and Scott would forgive them, and they’d ruin the pack. It was good that the pack was keeping him at a distance, it was good that Scott finally learned that his blind trust in everyone wasn’t always safe, that sometimes, being suspicious helped you survive. But Theo hated that he was the one who taught them that lesson. Because the Sheriff had been right. Theo had done nothing but lie and deceive and manipulate for the better part of ten years, and all that got him was this.
Living in his truck, barely sleeping or even eating, completely alone because he’d destroyed the trust every single person had in him.
