Summary
It’s not real. It’s not real. It can’t be.
He’s hallucinating. A concussion. Hell, maybe this is some sort of purgatory.
“Fuck,” he rasps, the word torn from him as a cough shakes his body. Copper floods his tongue. He blinks, disoriented, and Bobby’s still there, solid, impossibly so, haloed in dust.
“You’re not real,” Buck croaks.
“Maybe,” Bobby says with a small shrug, the ghost of a smile tugging at his lips. “Or maybe death sent me as a kindness.”
“You’re not real,” Buck insists again, the words cracking apart.
“I’m real enough,” Bobby murmurs. “Now breathe.”
Buck tries. It hurts, sharp, jagged, but the air finds its way into his lungs. He coughs, choking on dust and tears as the collapsing world bleeds back into sound. When he opens his eyes again, Bobby’s still there, steady, unshakable, holding the weight of Buck’s grief in his gaze. He nods downward.
“Put pressure on that before you bleed out, dumbass.”
or
When Buck gets trapped during an earthquake, he’s forced to confront the one thing he’s been running from — grief.

Summary
It has been a year since Bobby’s death, and Buck has never been the same. Grief eats at him in quiet ways the rest of the 118 can’t quite reach, so when he announces he’s taking a break and heading abroad, everyone tells themselves he deserves the space. A week later, he disappears. Weeks turn into months, and the people he left behind are forced to believe the unthinkable—that Buck walked away for good. Until the headlines change, and the word “presumed dead” settles over them like ash.
What none of them know is that Buck’s story didn’t end there. His grief, his secrets, and the dangerous truth he’s been carrying all lead back to a past no one at the 118 ever imagined. And when the pieces finally surface, the loss they thought they understood becomes something else entirely.
How will the 118 deal with losing people they love, only to find out later that it was all a lie?
OR
Buck disappeared, and the truth might destroy what’s left of the family they built.

Summary
Hen sighs. “Something had to be said before you idiots put us in mortal peril.”
“I’d never do anything to jeopardize our safety on a job! You know that Hen.”
“Maybe not on purpose,” Chim chimes in, “but, see, the thing is, when you flirt with our Buck, his brain turns off. He just bluescreens.”
“You’re flustering the poor boy, Eddie,” Hen adds. “And it’s making him dumb.”
“-er,” Chim adds.
“Wha- Buck isn’t flustered.”
Eddie is flustered. His face feels hot. He takes another sip of his coffee to give his hands something do to, but that only makes him feel warmer. Shit.
Hen levels him with the most deadpan look. “Last week he walked into a stop sign after you called him ‘big boy’ on a call.”
Eddie nearly spits out his coffee.
Or: the one where Eddie subconsciously flirts with Buck without realizing and Buck is actively trying not to have a heart attack at work about it
