Oh. Xiao’s heart dropped down to his stomach.
She was right. The first time he’d asked Venti how he was so knowledgeable in matters of the heart, the boy had not-so-subtly hinted at having a significant amount of experience in said matters. He didn’t even want to think about the times he’d heard about someone fancying his best friend, let alone the multiple instances where someone had asked Venti out right in front of him.
He had to do something. And fast.
Or, five times Xiao watches his school’s resident Cupid help others find love, and one time he manages to catch Cupid himself.

It is true. It is for the best. They tried, but it seems that fate or destiny or whatever is there didn't want them together. Venti is going to chase his dreams, Xiao can’t follow him, and both know that a long-distance relationship isn't going to work. That kind of relationship never works, Venti says to himself.
"You're right."
Yes, he is indeed right. Venti smiles, painfully, and without another word, he sees him leaving the park, only covering himself from the rain with his hood and leaving Venti his umbrella.
It is for the best. He wants it, he said it, he believes in his words.

The pond isn’t far, not really, but it’s far enough that a quiet restlessness tingles under his skin as Barbatos continues quietly making a musical accompaniment to their jaunt. It’s strange, how different he is from Morax.
Obviously Xiao does not know Barbatos, but Morax would never whistle while covered in enough mud to craft an entire earthenware set. Morax wouldn’t giggle and twirl a braid as he speaks, wouldn’t speak so flippantly to a fellow warrior who is known for retched bloodshed.
Barbatos, however, is everything Morax is not. There is power, of course—even Xiao can feel it, underneath the innocent facade—but the stark difference between how the Geo and Anemo Archons hold themselves… it’s as contrasting as these elements themselves.
Xiao finds himself… not hating it.
