Kim Roksoo was staring at him from the couch.
It was just the two of them staring at each other for a long time in the fragile quiet that seemed as if it would break. The light of his phone screen illuminated his face, highlighting the bags under Kim Roksoo’s eyes that just never seemed to go away. But he was there, in the living room, company t-shirt, mismatched socks, cotton pajama pants and all.
Choi Jungsoo dragged himself across the room and all but slumped next to him with a thump on the cushions.
Kim Roksoo was stoic as always. “Bad dream?”
In response, Choi Jungsoo practically burrowed himself even closer next to him, taking up Kim Roksoo’s personal space and grabbing a pillow to squeeze as he sighed. They fit together like puzzle pieces.

Those humans are (previously, never) adult humans who are growing new humans inside of them. Murderbot's made a lot of stupid decisions, usually for good reason. Or at least, what seemed like a good reason at the time. Re-enabling its governor module, even if only in a last-ditch attempt to keep its humans safe, had been the only card it had left to play. But things didn't work out as planned, and after four years of freedom, it's back.

I’d been watching Sanctuary Moon on the couch, but the drones (and my eyes) told me she’d gotten up, so I got up to follow her. Then, for no reason, my risk assessment module hit 97% and I almost went into automatic shutdown."
Murderbot discovers that Doctor Mensah, in a misguided attempt to buy it a gift, has acquired a company cubicle. This is traumatizing, horrifying, and the maybe the worst thing that's ever happened, but Murderbot knows its place. It belongs to Mensah, and if Mensah wants to stick it in a cubicle, its going to go. Fortunately, a certain research transport shows up to make sure nobody's mistreating their SecUnit.
