It looks human enough, at first glance — perhaps in the dark of night, Nanami might mistake it for a strangely reckless swimmer. But at second glance, and in the full light of day, the details are all wrong: Cheeks too sharply pointed; hair that moves on its own in a quietly questing way, as if it weren't hair at all; the hue of the skin and shape of the jaw, the flattened nose and markings on the face; all of it points to something else.
