“You pictured me in the future?” Cooper stared at Harry, who was still watching the sun set on the auburn water, now smiling softly.
“Yeah,” he said. “All the time.”
“What am I like?” Cooper began to smile, but it turned into a wince. It had been so, so long since he’d last smiled; it hurt.
“Like I’ve ever been able to describe you, Coop,” Harry chuckled.
“Try.”
“Well, you’re spectacular, of course. Truly one of a kind. You stay in Twink Peaks – I always liked to think you’d stay in Twin Peaks. And we’d work at the office and we’d get coffee and we’d talk. You’d be happy. So, so happy, Coop. I always made sure to picture you happy.”

He told himself this was different from what he felt for Josie. Cooper had passed weapons training like any FBI agent, and made that very clear in the shooting range. But like their first trip to One-Eyed Jack’s proved, many a goon out there would happily bump off a lawman who didn’t find his footing quick enough. It was natural to feel responsible for Cooper’s safety - after all, he was here on Harry’s request. He had to make sure the Bureau’s finest returned in one piece.
