Being retired and wearing matching rings is no reason for Dean to not panic about the really important questions. Such as if Sammy would rather enjoy blue or pink bubbles.
It was all Sammy’s fault. Sammy had decided to buy silver rings and pink was the perfect addition to silver. Everybody should have the opportunity to bathe in pinkish bubbles at least once, especially Sammy. Sammy deserved everything.

Summary
Getting to care for Sammy is both calming and comfortable, as familiar to Dean as breathing. More than that, though, Dean can finally give Sammy what he wishes he could have given his little brother as a boy—a stable home. His own room, his own things, all the affection in the world, because Dean doesn’t have to toughen Sammy up and teach him about monsters and how to survive them. Sam knows all about that already, and Sammy never has to find out.

After the season eight finale, Sam doesn’t go comatose, but he’s still horribly sick, fine one minute and collapsing the next. Newly human Castiel makes his way to the bunker to help Dean figure out a cure, but with three dysfunctional men under the same roof, all of them with their own unique baggage, things have a way of getting complicated. Fast.
