Summary
When Lily appears to Severus through the power of the Resurrection Stone, she reveals a long-buried secret about Harry’s parentage and tasks Severus with rescuing Harry from the Dursleys.
Severus isn’t certain he’s up to this new challenge, but he’s determined to keep his promise to Lily—for the boy’s sake and maybe even for his own. After all, Potter may be just like his father, but that fact no longer seems like the divide between them it once did.
Harry, meanwhile, is baffled that Snape of all people is the one to finally take him away from the Dursleys—supposedly for good. Snape survived but disappeared in shame and remorse after the battle. Harry finds him, and they both discover that they have more in common now more than ever - Both are struggling with their sense of self and purpose. But stray Death Eaters from the battle are re-grouping for a final stand to take out the great Harry Potter, and their traitor, and Harry and Snape must put aside their differences to end the fight once and for all, whilst also dealing with Snape's illness along the way. No slash. Explores darker themes of grief, self-blame, PTSD, depression, and suicidal ideation.
I dedicate this story to my father who passed from a long battle with cancer at 61 years old on 15/03/2023 - whose journey was the inspiration for this story. xx

James was busy sucking Lily's face off, which left Sirius bored. Again. Sirius knew he'd found his evening entertainment when he saw Snivellous mysteriously disappear from the Marauder's Map. Snivellous was certain to be up to no good. It was practically a public service to investigate the matter. His plan did not involve snogging Snape in a broom cupboard and it certainly wasn't supposed to lead to anything more, but sometimes things don't go as planned. It ought to be a story of pure simple hate between two young men destined to be on opposite sides of a war. It wasn't supposed to be a love story.
