The worry Steve wore when he accidentally spilled a glass of milk or was hearing about a new operation from Maria Hill looked almost like this. But his eyes were clear then, blue. The way they were supposed to be. They were different now.

Summary
Max Hansen, the English bulldog, was a frequent patient at Hansen-Pentecost Veterinary Clinic. He had a bad hip on his left side, and a bad habit of getting into tussles with skunks, possums, raccoons and neighborhood cats. It did not help that he was generally pretty bad at tussling in the first place.

“It hurts most the first time, but you get used to it,” Bucky whispered. Steve jerked at the sound; it was Brooklyn, it was 1939, it was Bucky. “Bucky!” he tried to scream through the gag, fresh tears coming down his face. “You’re strong though. You’ll make a good asset. I’ll show you.”
“He’s secure,” Bucky said, voice toneless and mechanic once more
The chair lowered and Steve was screaming through the gag, still thrashing against the restraints even harder. Something lowered over his head and pressed against his face. He could not even jerk his face away, he was held too tightly. He met Bucky’s eyes; desperate, terrified as he tried to tell Bucky everything, tried to convince Bucky to stop this through eye contact alone.
The machine revved up under the chair. Bucky smiled down at him. Then all Steve knew was pain before darkness finally took hold of him. The last thing he saw was Bucky smiling. He looked the same.

“I don’t…Buck!” Steve’s flustered. Of course he’s thought about it, of course. Bucky’s gorgeous, dark hair and pretty eyes, his body long and lithe from years of dance. Steve’s not blind: of course he’s noticed Bucky.
But they’re best friends. Adding something like sex to their relationship would be like playing with fire.

Summary
Bucky Barnes turns himself in to SHIELD two years after dragging Captain America out of the Potomac River. He was deprogrammed in Wakanda and has been hunting down Hydra ever since, but he needs help if he wants to take proper revenge on his captors. He turns to his old enemies: SHIELD and the Avengers, but it'll take more than a few words to win their trust after the Winter Soldier brought SHIELD to its knees not long before. Now at SHIELD's mercy, the only thing that stands between Bucky and his revenge is the approval of Captain Rogers: a self-righteous asshole that Bucky barely knows.
