It hadn't registered before, but seeing her in such dull clothes made him realise the vision of colours he'd seen earlier. She was the Alice. The Alice who knew him, but he didn't know her, not yet, not until he met her when she was younger and he was older, and then again when she was older and he was even older. No, but that wasn't quite right. He knew her from when he was younger and she was older. Older as she was now. This is the Alice he met, had known, had meant to know, all along.
