Summary
Like a dog, Zanka’s sole sustenance is attention. Tamsy's seen it, how he looks to Enjin and Enjin- nine times out of ten- hardly acknowledges his junior. He would feel bad for Zanka, because it's an undeniable fact that both his family and his current employers have left him wanting, but an opportunity has presented itself so deliciously that Tamsy can’t muster even a shred of pity for him.
Tamsy notices something about Zanka that others have yet to pick up on, and commences a little side-project whilst his other schemes tick away in the background. One can never be too prepared, after all– and Zanka's practically begging to be moulded by Tamsy's hands into something of use.

Owen had been drunk enough to be pleasantly swimming, eyes blinking languidly— he wasn’t going to turn down free wine, especially from the Goldsmith cellars. But at the sight of Pyro crawling into Scott’s lap with no sense of propriety, he had sat straight and cold and sober, heat rushing to his bloodless face and fingers tightening on his goblet.
Scott had looked… smug, was the only word for it, pulling Pyro’s head down to rest against his shoulder, and indulgently bringing his hand up to run through his fledglings dark hair. Owen found his eyes drawn helplessly to the motion, fingers cold and stiff where they were clenched on the goblet and the table surface, pupils dilated in the dim candle flicker light of the formerly grand banquet hall. Scott had made eye contact with him, his smile slow and sharp. A bare flicker of pointed white teeth flashed on his bottom lip as Pyro let out a content sigh and relaxed, half on Scott’s lap, and half tucked onto the grand chair Scott had positioned at the head of the table.

Owen perched on the upper boughs of a spruce, looking down at Avid. The fool had gotten separated from his group and Owen had herded him to the edge of a cliff. He wasn’t going to kill him. But there were worse things than death and Owen was glad to be his reminder of that. Cornered, Avid finally faced Owen with his trembling hands and terrified stink.
Selfish was not the insult Owen had expected though. Monster. Abomination. Murderer. That was Avid’s usual repertoire.

Avid let out a noise of relief, seeing light shining from around the corner. He sped up even faster, letting go of the stake because he was almost there-
Something stepped in front of him. Avid let out a yell of fear that rolled into a cry of pain as he hit the thing full force and fell backwards from his momentum.
