Fifty years from now, a century, it does not matter, but you expect him to see how nicely you’ve been waiting, how penitent you are, how deep the bruises on your knees are from kneeling, and you expect him to count himself lucky to inspire such devotion in one such as you.”
Armand’s wide eyes narrowed. “And what of you?” he snapped. “You think he’s forgiven you?”
Lestat sobered, and reached out to touch Armand’s sleeve. “Of course not. Of course he hasn’t. Of course he won’t. Forgiving me would be like forgiving himself, and we both know he’ll never do that. Mon cher petit diable, you can’t only exist for the dream of Louis.”

“... I do wish it was you,” Armand continues, smiling at him and lacing his fingers through Lestat’s. “Even in Marius’ stead. You’ve never hurt me so, not for all I did to deserve it. To you, it is a form of art to make love. And I wish I was him—for you, to not have been hurt so badly.”
“I did hurt you very badly once,” Lestat reminds him.
“Yes, well. I got better.”
They sit in silence for some time. Armand kneads gently along Lestat’s shoulder and back muscles, content with the task, letting him relax incrementally. He leaves him to the silence, waits for Lestat to fill the space, as he always does. It’s inevitable.
“Well, how would you have done it?”
