Summary
"You fucking rodeo clown American prick!" Jamie shouts. "This is bullshit!"
He crosses the room and kicks Ted's suitcases, which tumble over like dominoes. Ted glances over and seems startled, but not all that scared.
"Well, heck," he laughs. "I'm starting to think there might be a ghost in here."

Summary
“I'm gay.”
He's looking at his feet, because he hasn't quite come to terms with the fact that he's saying this in a room where other people, strangers, can hear it.
But this is still the first time he's said it this way: out loud, in a declarative sentence. Being nervous is fine. Frank said that being nervous is fine, and Buck just said he's proud, and the only thought Eddie has in his head is that it's embarrassing he can't raise his head and say it like a man, so clearly, he's going to need to hang on to other people's words for the time being, someone who isn't his dad trying to explain the ways Eddie's allowed to inhabit the world.
He doesn't need to ask anyone's permission to be who he is. That's also a thing Frank said.
in which eddie attends a self-empowerment group for gbtq men to supplement his therapy, and is empowered to: forgive himself, say "i'm gay" to his own reflection in the mirror, accidentally adopt an adult, make fried rice, and tell his straight best friend that he's in love with him. not necessarily in that order.

Summary
“What is Evan’s favorite restaurant?” Tommy asks.
“La Plaza Mayor,” Eddie responds mechanically, the answer so easy he didn’t even have to stop and think about it. “He says it’s the only Mexican restaurant that comes close to my Abuela’s cooking. He really misses her cooking.”
(or Eddie helps Tommy be a good boyfriend to Buck and realizes in the process that maybe he's wanted to be Buck's boyfriend all along.)

Summary
Sam was worried about Jamie. Well, maybe worried was a bit of a strong word. It wasn’t like there was anything particularly wrong with Jamie, he wasn’t quiet and drawn the way he got that one time that freaked everyone out, Sam was just… concerned for his friend. He couldn’t really place where the concern started, it was just lots of little thing, comments here and there, the occasional observation. Isaac is the one who really makes Sam notice it.
“Do you think it’s weird Jamie never goes home with anyone?” He asks

While their little game started after Jamie's knob incident, the red string that bound them had been spinning a tale for decades. It wasn't as though neither of them realised they were obsessed with one another, oh no, they knew that, but this was different. The game they played now, of teasing hands and soft mouths was the foundation of something else entirely...
(Or Jamie and Roy are obsessed with each other and don't fuck until they do.)

Summary
When he had the chance to fix his mistake with Keeley, to take it all back, to start over and get it right, it felt like he’d been given a second chance at life. Rectifying this mistake would be a balm over the pain of his other regrets. He never expected it. When he drove Jamie to Keeley’s house after their stupid little fight, he half believed she would choose Jamie, half expected she would choose neither of them.
Six months after Keeley chooses Roy, Roy realizes he'd make some different choices if he could.

Summary
Ted would be the first one to admit that he didn't know a darned thing about football when he arrived at Richmond. So no, he was not at all prepared for the awful, horrifying truth he discovered: that football clubs were allowed to keep some of their players as indentured servants -- slaves, to be more accurate. He wasn't prepared to take on a tradition that allowed for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, all in the name of winning football matches.
As for Colin and Jamie, who were both sold as indentured servants when they were kids and have barely survived since then, they long ago learned not to trust anyone but each other. Especially not with an owner like Rupert Mannion, who's been happily abusing his authority over them for years. They know better than to believe anyone will help them.
Luckily, Ted believes enough for all of them. But he's got his work cut out for him, because a system that will accept human trafficking in exchange for football excellence is not one that will change easily...

Summary
"At 25, with two premier league wins and a strong appearance in the Champions League under his belt, Jamie had said he’d go out on a high note. He’d promised himself, back when 30 felt like a death sentence, that at 35 he’d retire in a blaze of glory, having crushed competitive football in every metric there is.
Then three weeks before his 35th birthday, that plan had been shot to hell when Roy Kent walked into the locker room."
Or, A Jamie on his way out of the Premier League can't get Roy, over a decade his junior, out of his head.

The thing was that, when it happened, it didn’t even hurt.
The complete lack of pain took him by surprise more than anything else. The tackle had been a clean one, and there would be no yellow card, no foul cried—Jamie himself didn’t even realise something was wrong until Max helped him up, he took a step, and immediately crumpled down into a heap again.

Summary
The third time The Thought crosses Roy’s mind, it doesn’t come as a sudden realisation like it had both times before. He doesn’t just happen to blink or some shit and get struck with the fucking epiphany that Jamie Tartt clearly, desperately needs a hug. It’s not a jolt to his system, not a surprise, not this huge blindsiding Thing that appears out of nowhere.
No, this iteration of The Thought creeps up like a bad cold: slowly, lazily to start, so that it doesn’t seem like such a big deal at first, but that’s how it fucking gets you, innit, because soon enough you’re knocked clear on your arse with the force of it.
And it’s fucking terrifying.
