He remembers in that vague way that the first few years of his life felt warm and cozy – a blanket on a chilly morning. The McCoskers had loved him so dearly for the first decade of his life. He’d been the only human child born on Pandora in ten years. Those ten years, he kept tucked into the waistband of his loincloth for those rainy days when the gravity of Pandora seemed to hold him hostage, when he felt that the sudden darkness in his soul would consume him.

The undergrowth rustles as something pushes through. Neytiri holds her position, bow lifted to her shoulder, string remaining slack.
She stops breathing all together when it reveals itself.
Pink pale skin, bright hair helplessly tangled and a small body that shouldn’t be able to walk as freely as it does on her planet peeks through. Neytiri’s breath becomes short with rage as it slowly approaches the river bank, using all four limbs in a kind of imitation of a viperwolf’s loping walk. The edges of her sight turn dark as it turns to the traps in the water.
A skyperson has been stealing food from her people. A pink skin, whose kind has already taken so much from her planet, deigns to feed itself on their catches. Distantly, she knows she’s becoming incensed, but she can’t help it. Her rage burns through her consciousness so quickly that she’s drawing back an arrow before she can even think about it.

He didn't know how to act, Awa'atlu was safe, no RDA poking and shoving tubes in his mouth and needles in his arms, no more running and snarling and constant fear.
No more heart stopping bullets and large rough hands that he had known for months grabbing at him.
His body couldn't find a moment to feel the safety of Awa'atlu, his body racking and mind pulsing as pain and uncertainty flowed through him.
So he wasn't too surprised when his body started to grow tired of the constant terror.
