Like summoned, Crockett appears, tail wagging, and immediately goes to nuzzle at Tubbs like the short time away from the cat was too long, and the cat just takes it with good grace.
God, maybe this was a terrible decision because he misses Eddie tenfold watching them.
Then, suddenly, Hairy starts barking up a storm, making Buck alert because while Hairy is the stereotypical small dog with a huge bark, this is…threatening and hostile.

Summary
Eddie is in a coma, and Buck blames himself. He should've been there to protect Eddie. The least he can do now is to be there for Christopher, even if Buck doesn't know if he has it in him to be a parent without Eddie. Buck makes Eddie a deal: he'll fight for Christopher in the real world, while Eddie fights to wake up.
Eddie's come a long way since those bleak days in El Paso, listening to his parents comments about how he's not fit to be a father. How Christopher doesn't deserve to be dragged down by the likes of Eddie and Shannon. Eddie thought after moving to LA, he and Chris had escaped that. When he wakes up and finds Buck neck-deep in a legal battle with his parents for custody of Christopher, Eddie must face his own mistakes, and find the confidence to stand up for himself against his absolute worst nightmare.

It was the last thing they had let him say before placing the oxygen mask over his face and turned the sirens on, speeding through the streets of LA to the closest trauma center. Buck struggled to stay awake, though he knew he needed to. His eyes grew heavier at every breath, only jolted to attention by Chimney’s angry and determined squeezes. He wished it were Eddie, though he knew why it wasn’t. Eddie’s anger was a bitch, and Hen needed to work without that distraction. Hell, if he was wishing, he wished it was Bobby.
OR The firefam is already going through it after the Season 7 finale and the return of Captain Gerrard. When Buck is put through the ringer once again, it gets even harder to see the end to the team's struggle to get the 118 back to normal.
