Summary
Life is a strategy game for Thomas, always has been. He prides himself on his intellect: the ability to step back, evaluate each detail logically, and make the most rational, thoughtful decision. But there is no intellectualizing what's happening between him and Micro. There's no rational explanation for the feeling in Thomas's gut whenever Micro so much as looks in his direction. Except that he has, somehow, fallen head over heels for Micro.
Thomas has a crush. And he's crushing hard.

A pale figure sitting on the steps opposite him, so ghostly that the moonlight seems to reflect off of him. He’s glowing… a lantern in the dead of night. The only darkness on him was two twin moles on opposite poles of his mouth… and the amount of blood staining his monochrome attire.
Alternatively, Thomas thinks that he’s doing just fine as a child solider until he meets an oddly poetic boy the night his roommate dies.

This was his only chance at having Micro live again. The conditions of this task kept weighting on his mind. Somehow, Flux had let him and Micro leave, but with certain requirements in place. They couldn't walk hand in hand or side by side. Thomas had to walk in front with Micro behind him, out of sight.
"If you turn around to look at him," Flux had said, staring into Thomas' eyes with an intense glare, "then Micro goes right back to Hadestown, and there won't be anything that you can do about it then."

Mike stood up, ignoring the question that hung in the air. He ignored the blades of grass sticking to his jeans, and he allowed the night to unfold without him. This night might blur into the many other nights he spent monotonously, repetitively; rinse and repeat, always ending in regret. But like how looking at stars meant looking at years past, he felt like seeing Thomas in the future would remind him of this night, accurately beaming what it’s like to revel in his presence.
He would know it from that vague ache in his chest, beating louder than house remixes in his eardrums. He had to admit it: seeing—really seeing—that Thomas was beautiful is an unforgettable experience.
The cliché as it goes: the nerd and the jock fall in love, starring a climax that takes place on top of a ferris wheel.

The brown haired man is curled up in a ball, face tucked into his knees. Even in the dimly lit bedroom, Micro sees the way his shoulders shake from the other's hunched positions, and his usually warm toned skin looks pale and clammy. He looks miserable.

Thomas is scared of thunder. Micro comes home during a storm and comforts him.

Micro trails off as Thomas, in a panic, chucks the plush in his hands across the living room. It smacks against the wall with a soft thud before flopping facedown onto the floor. Thomas's face feels like it's on fire as he stares at Micro, wide eyed and chest heaving.
Micro looks down at the plush, and all Thomas wants to do is run. Escape. He's humiliated, mortified.
I'm going to kill Saps.
