before i really began writing this whole au, i had a very different idea. since the au has taken a completely different course, and this was written before much of emery's lore was developed, this is no longer 'canon' to the au. consider this another au of the au lol
i still really enjoy the bonds emery forms here, but with the way the real au is taking place, its going to be difficult to write them in the way i want
also i feel bad that i havent updated the actual au in a while, despite saying i had so many things written. everything written is non-canon now. the canon stuff is all in my head. i will get it out eventually, but you might not like it when i do. we're in for a bumpy ride

this is like 50% finished but i dont think i'll ever fully finish it. all the important scenes or dialogue exists and thats what matters. some sections i never got around to fleshing out but ill still include them since it still gives you an idea of what /should/ have happened if id ever written it. at 60k words its a shame to keep it hiding in my docs despite some of it being a rough draft
please ignore any inconsistencies or inaccuracies, im australian and this is set in a fictional american town, as you know. and i wrote this out of order, over the course of almost an entire year with the last major edit being in july 2024

Summary
A great source of despair draws Nightmare to an abandoned AU. There he finds an unfinished Sans with no name, no companions, no purpose, no world, and a soul. Nightmare gives him the option to get out of his abandoned, empty world. He accepts the offer but refuses to destroy anything or hurt people. Instead he finds another purpose. In return the Bad Sanses give him a home, companions, a life, and a name. They call him Ink.
Or: Before he can destroy his soul and enter the Doodle Sphere, Ink is recruited by Nightmare. He accepts his role as best he can, even if he sometimes feels like he is meant for something more.
