Glassy eyes, staring at nothing. She closes them gently, cradling the small, soft thing in her palms. It’s warm to the touch, but cooling quickly.

He's thought about methods. There are plenty of tall buildings in the area, and he has his razor. He could slit his wrists, but that one has a low success rate. He's better off throwing himself off of a roof. He lets out a shaky sigh, feels the shudder in his chest and turns away, back to his bed. The mattress creaks slightly beneath his weight, as he lays his head back down on the pillow and pulls the sheets back over himself, screwing his eyes shut to block out images of two little boys behind flared electric bars, hide the cracks in his SOUL from the rest of the world and forget for a moment just how atrocious he really is. It doesn’t work.
He reminds himself everyday. Maybe he doesn't deserve to even rest at night.
Gaster sighs, hands bunching lightly in the sheets.
It’s useless trying to get to sleep- he lies awake till dawn, trying (and failing, always failing) not to think about shattered bones and screaming kids.

Summary
Turtle liked the emptiness and vastness of the ocean. Out there, even though he was alone, he could be himself. Those delicate pieces of his existence—the fears that rattled his bones and wept like waterfalls—became nothing more than circumstantial quirks. His character came from the background and miraculously stumbled into the main role. Turtle, against all odds, felt free. As if he could be more than what he was, without having to become something bigger than who he was.
(or: turtle didn’t recognize dragons the way he should, let alone himself.)
