Shane needs to give Ilya something if he wants him to stay. It’s the only way he could also keep Ilya to be with him.
“What if I let you continue?” Shane says after a while, suddenly glad to be facing away from Ilya.
“Continue what?”
“Uh, continue jerking off,” Shane stammers out, gripping his pillow tightly to suppress his embarrassment. “You’re still hard, right?”
Ilya stays silent.
“Don’t offer me things you are going to regret, Shane.” Ilya warns him, but the breathlessness in his tone betrays him. “That would be cruel. To me and to yourself,”
“I won’t regret anything,” Shane promises. “It’s.. the least I could do,”
Shane does the craziest thing before he can talk himself out of it; he shoves the blanket down his body, exposing himself once again, then subtly shifts and arches his back so that his ass juts out. “Please?”

Shane cracked his eyes open, staring dumbly at the burly Russian hovering over him where he was still laying in bed.
“…bath?” He croaked, voice raspy with disuse.
“Mm. I ran you a bath. It will make you feel better before you go to sleep tonight. Will help with your sore muscles.”
Shane asks Ilya to fuck him gently during one of their regular hookups, badly bruised from their game. Ilya runs him a bath afterwards, and they fall secretly and desperately in love that way, through whispered confessions and late night conversations while Shane soaks, and Ilya quietly observes him.

But all he can do now is stare at Shane and think I miss you, I’ve missed you, I will keep missing you. It’s like his eyes and his mind are having two different conversations. His eyes see Shane, and fuck, it’s good – but his mind sees tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, and finds them all lacking.
Ilya isn’t doing so well during his first few months in Ottawa. He tries not to make a thing of it.

Summary
They don’t usually talk much during this part; the room instead filled with their heavy breathing, the slick sound of lube, the crinkle of a condom wrapper, and skin slapping against skin.
Ilya enters him much faster than how he opened him, burying himself quickly, knowing that’s how Shane wants it, how he needs it. Because Ilya was right; he does know what Shane needs. It’s like a sixth sense. It makes Shane feel crazy that someone like Ilya can understand him so intimately, so deeply, without really even knowing him. Sometimes it makes him a little sick to think about even, to think about how badly he wants Ilya to know him, and how scared of that he is, so he usually avoids it.
He’s taken out of his head by Ilya, who likely could tell he was in it. He pointedly does not think about it.
Or: Shane has some feelings during sex. When Ilya accidentally falls asleep afterwards, Shane doesn't wake him up so they can have some more time together for once. It really doesn't have to mean anything, honestly.

Being a professional athlete in a contact sport is an exercise in enduring pain. Sometimes you get benched for three weeks because you have a broken cheekbone after you get hit in the face with a slap shot. Sometimes you play through a strained quad, a bruised shoulder, a mild fever. Most times, it’s just the constant, unending soreness that comes with pushing your body to its limit every single day. Every athlete had an injury they hated most, though, one that’s particularly painful or recurrent or just annoying.
Ilya fucking hated injuring his ribs. There is almost nothing you can do with your body that doesn't involve moving your torso, and the pain is deep, throbbing, and gets just a tiny bit worse every time you breathe. Sitting up hurts, lying down hurts, walking hurts, and worst of all, coughing fucking hurts.

Ilya is sick and injured in the off-season. Luckily, Shane loves him so very much and is there to take care of him.

In Ilya’s ear, Shane moans, all drawn out and breathy. “Fuck, Ilya.”
Ilya smirks at Marleau. “Jane is busy at the moment, Marly.”

Ilya is out celebrating a win and he keeps coming up with reasons to stay later and later. The team finds this unusual cause he’d usually be racing to leave to meet up with Montreal Girl™.
The team’s a little worried thinking Ilya somehow fumbled Montreal Girl™ and agreed to go along with his ideas.
Meanwhile, Shane’s tied up on the bed with a vibrating buttplug that Ilya’s controlling on his phone.
