Sometimes the road seems to stretch on into a scabby green-gray infinity. Making noise into the uncaring void of the wilds just makes him feel frightened of the sound of his own voice. The road is lonely. Desperately lonely.
It doesn't matter that Geralt tells him to shut up at least a dozen times a day, or that Geralt orders him around when they make camp, or that Geralt never has a constructive word to say about his newest compositions. What matters is that the presence of another person makes the fist around Jaskier's chest ease its grip, lets his voice flow. And even if his voice draws wolves, he'll still be safe. Protected. That's all that matters.

After being accused of treason for their role in Xin'trea, Fringilla is dismissed and demoted, and Cahir is reassigned. Sent back to the City of Golden Towers, the capital of Nilfgaard, the pair end up reluctantly sharing a room together in Cahir's great aunt's apartments.
This is both a serious story about insecurity and uncertainty and finding solace in friendship in the shadow of an authoritarian, imperialist regime and a really really silly one about cat shenanigans and bunk beds and fuzzy robe stealing and manicures and orb pondering wizards.

Adora stumbles back, looking almost drunk. She falls back against a tree, one arm reaching out behind her to steady herself, head thrown back, panting for breath as blood covers her face and drips down her chin. She wipes her mouth with one hand, licks the mess slowly from her fingers.
“Adora, what the fuck,” Catra says, the fear obvious in her voice and yet insufficient to make her turn and run. Adora’s head rolls downward to regard her. There’s real color in her cheeks now, her eyes no longer bloodshot, recognition dawning in them as she glances between Catra's bewildered expression and mauled hand, panic rushing to take the place of the numbness that had filled her chest only minutes ago.
Adora's just your average teenager, plays football, gets good grades, well liked. Mostly. Living in an equally average, small and sleepy town. Ringed by forests, bordered by mountains, the kind of place where nothing interesting happens. Until Adora goes missing. Gone, two weeks, comes back. Comes back wrong. Still plays football, still gets good grades. Less well liked. Too good at football, too strong, too fast. Keeps to herself. Nearly bit her friend's hand off but that was like, one time.
