By now, it’s the last week of September. The leaves are turning. The weather’s changing. In a scant few days, the calendar will tick over into October, and the polite veil, waiting for its cue, will stretch sheer. The Realms will press its so-many faces to the divide. And death will seep through, as before.
“Are you scared?”
“Yes. No. Both, I—I made the decision already, you know? Fear doesn’t even factor into it now.”
“Couldn’t you—” Sam starts, but catches herself.
Couldn’t you change your mind? No. Not really—not without giving something else up. And Danny doesn’t really want to, besides.
There are just a few short days left before the first of October, when the veil runs thin. Danny is taking care to spend quality time with the people he loves. The people he loves are taking care to spend quality time with him. No one is talking about something, and everyone is tripping over it in their attempts to avoid.
There are just a few short days left. There is a choice that has already been made.
Something is about to end.

The Intangibility of Rebirth - A no-accident, (mostly) no-ghosts AU, featuring unhealthy Maddie/Vlad and the thing watching over them.
All Words for Begging - Vlad POV. An AU in which the accident transformed Vlad then and there, and the Fentons have always known he was a ghost. This tells the consequences of that, both internally and externally.
Like Pulling Teeth - Vlad POV, following his emotional baggage as he tries and fails and tries again to reconcile the hurt the Fentons dealt him. Also, surprise! They're halfas, too. Affectionately called "the worst possible halfa trio AU."

Summary
John is revived on Theseus about a year into the trip, and he’s come back both ascended and depressed. He disassociates often, which for him is a lot more literal than most. Dirk brings out a side of sadism John didn’t realise he had in him and John brings out sadomasochism that Dirk was well aware he had in him. It’s kind of romantic.

He doesn’t think he’s ever been the subject of such intense, singular focus, and he nearly laughs at how absurd it all is. They are monsters, whatever they really are, shells they fill with what understanding they can scrape together of the human form and he- he is garden they harvest from. He is their live model now, and has been for some weeks, and he isn’t nearly as terrified as he should be.
