The call ends, and Ryder slips his phone into the front pocket of his messenger back on the library table. Sunset rays stream in through the window of the private study room, highlighting all the dust he’s been breathing in since he arrived two hours ago. Various manuals, maps, and a few heavy textbooks on forensics, scuba diving, archaeology, and more are stacked neatly at the back edge of the desk. Before him, still open, is a tactical guide for backpacking survival.
He already knows all this stuff, but Ryder has always been thorough.
