Kaveh, standing in the doorway of what was once their home, staring at the wall with glistening eyes as he tells Alhaitham farewell for the last time. It was the first word Kaveh had said to Alhaitham in days, and it would be the last for many to come.

“You’re acting odd.”
It is Kaveh, not Alhaitham, who says such a thing a week later over breakfast. Alhaitham does not look up from his book but does offer a muted ‘hm’ as a response. Apparently, it is unsatisfactory to Kaveh, who crowds his space and nudges at the offending object.
Alhaitham sees Kaveh collecting flowers one morning on his way to work. Alhaitham, despite his own good sense, assumes the worst. Eventually, they get there together.

“Hm,” Al-Haitham says, and then he turns another page in his book.
Al-Haitham keeps hiding Kaveh's keys. It's not funny.

Summary
Alhaitham’s never cared about the opinions of others about him, until he meets Kaveh’s mother.
Alhaitham also has an answer for everything, until he’s rendered speechless by the woman now sitting across the couch in his home, drinking his coffee, and it’s not like she’s done particularly anything to make Alhaitham shut his mouth. It’s just that for the first time in his life, the scribe is choosing his words carefully and keeping himself in check. He dare not embarrass himself, more so offend the woman who’s the splitting image of his roommate.
She’s basically Kaveh in a dress and Kaveh with lipstick, and maybe a Kaveh who’s quieter and a few inches shorter in height.

The reinstatement of the Dendro Archon meant that those who slumbered were now granted dreams to see. Vibrant fantasies, enactments of futures impossible, imaginations that thrived free from the vice grips of reality, it was a sweet fruit that all could now partake into.
And the Acting Grand Sage dreamt, but rarely. And saw nothing remarkable in those dreams either.
But of course, even the sweetest of dreams only thrived in the bedrocks of nightmares.
Perhaps Alhaitham did prefer the old times in some ways.

"How did you even learn to draw?" Kaveh asks another day, observing another drawing closely (one where he seemed to be passionately talking about something again).
"Hm? I just flipped through a book on anatomy and got the hang of it."
. . . Why did Kaveh even bother? Alhaitham was probably the kind of monster who could draw a perfect side profile without lifting the pencil from the sheet even once.
Kaveh learns that Alhaitham liked to draw.
Or . . . he resorted to it, for reasons Kaveh would have to piece together over pages and pages of works created with the cost of a fraction of his dignity. Hopefully, he gets his answers, before the humiliation gets to him.

"I'm sure the Akademiya would end up providing some kind of compensation to you from my untimely demise," Alhaitham says pensively with a hand on his chin.
Kaveh groans, voice muffled by his hand sliding down his own face. "Would you quit talking about your own death so casually!? Unlike you, I have some basic empathy!"
"So you would be upset if I died?"
"...Don't put words in my mouth."

Summary
Alhaitham doesn’t know why he can’t shut it out—he’s heard it all before, doesn’t care to indulge. But with Kaveh it’s like the penultimate chapter of a story, the hushed moment before the dramatic curtain opens and the final act is revealed. Simply put, Alhaitham needs more.
So he blocks out the nose of distraction everywhere else: the Akademiya, the city streets, even his own mind when necessary. But not Kaveh. Never Kaveh.

Summary
If there is one thing Kaveh is good at, it’s architecture and arguing with his roommate. Their arguments reach a new high, when Kaveh’s latest project leaves no time for chores and their home turns into a mess of unwashed dishes and discarded sketches. Threats and snappy comments are thrown around, but Alhaitham doesn’t pay it much thought. Neither of them act on their threats anyways.
Or at least he thought so. Alhaitham is confronted with his bitter misconception, when Kaveh doesn’t return home, after threating to move out. Only then he realizes how silent those halls feel without the lively chatter of his roommate. Shortly after, Alhaitham decides to look for his ex-roommate and apologize.
