Summary
He takes him in with the dusk, observing him like art, because this is the time of day he paints a picture most stunning. Because it’s the sunset that yields to compliment Kaoru, and oh—it’s dawning on him that it’s his first decent view of Kaoru without his cast, without any gauze or bandages. The only tokens of memento he wears from that incident are the fresh marks reluctant to fade from his skin.
Below him, the waves lap the pier in a loud greeting, acknowledging Kaoru’s power as though he is some entity of the sea, and if it were so, he could use his siren’s song to pull him under the seafoam. And Kojiro wouldn’t resist.
Kojiro finds Kaoru bathed in twilight, enjoying a little taste of freedom after his recovery. Despite having tended to him through the ordeal, the new routine proves hard to break, and Kojiro wants to take him home to take care of him.
After weeks of neglecting more lascivious needs, they yield to suppressed desires and emotions.

“I see you’re wearing my gift, Kaoru… does this mean you approve?” Kaoru's ears twitched, tails flickering in excitement at the sound of his mate's approach.
Kaoru rolled his eyes, the irritated glare he sent over his shoulder was ruined by the happy sway of his many tails and the soft scent of citrus and burnt sugar from belaying his joy. “Don’t ask such foolish questions you already know the answer to…”
“Well, it looks good on you. I knew it would suit my Cherry Blossoms pretty hair.” Kojiro said, sitting himself behind Kaoru and pulling him into his lap. His large hands going to stroke through the long pink strands with reverence, as if they were made from spun gold.
“Kojiro…”
Kojiro smiled, burying his nose into Kaoru's hair and inhaling his scent, “Though, I’m sorry it doesn’t compare to the gift you’ve given me this year.”
“Oh, please, you can’t compare it to something like that. And you know I’ll cherish it… my darling, doting, dim-witted husband.” Kojiro's hands wrapped themselves around Kaoru's waist, resting against his lower belly protectively, Kaoru just smiled, placing his own smaller hands over Kojiro's larger ones and intertwining their fingers.
