Summary
The Hour of Joy had been compromised, higher-ups within the company discovering the plot before they went forward with the "Sleeping Guardian Initiative." Several toys were imprisoned for collaborating, some for weeks and some for years, undergoing a "rehabilitation" program to reintroduce them back to the factory.
CatNap was gone for three years, the world seemingly having moved on without him, but a distant memory of the past.
It's only at the start of a new period for the company, what some staff are calling the "Utopia Initiative", that CatNap is released back into the factory. After his release, it is up to DogDay, leader of the Smiling Critters, to teach his best friend how to properly fulfill his role by the month's end, or else there will be dire consequences, all the while a mystery begins to unravel beneath him, threatening to destroy everything the dog had ever held dear.

Summary
The Smiling Critter’s Cartoon Exists as a separate reality created by some freaky technology conjured in the Innovations Department for Playtime Co. Playtime Co. is able to use their advanced technology to extract the souls of these characters from this universe to use as the life force for their Bigger Bodies Initiative. Catnap’s soul, the weakest and most dormant, does not provide enough life to the character. Not wanting to scrap the project or face the profit losses of losing Catnap, An A.I. implant created by the Prototype is put into the BBI Catnap to stimulate higher level brain functions, drastically altering his personality. The Prototype uses his control over Catnap to execute the Hour of Joy. Once a Smiling Critter’s corporeal form is deceased, their soul is returned to their original universe, as if nothing ever happened, only left with the traumatic memories of the past. Catnap, despite not being in control of his body, also retains his memories.

Top Cat puts a stop to that good and quick, not out of any particular concern, but just in hopes of getting some peace and quiet. Fortunately for him though, Chooch isn't quite bright enough to spot the difference between affection shown for the sake of shutting him up, and affectionate flirting. The moonlight's real romantic tonight. It's easy to get confused.
Someone on another fic commented hoping for a bit of TC and Chooch. In honor of the Thanksgiving Holiday, I decided to work this one up as a thanks for my readers. Here's hoping you guys enjoy this simple little bit of classic shipping.

For DogDay though, it’s clear that something else is buried deep underneath their new friend’s kind caring nature and soothing presence. CatNap was sweet and kind, but also… strange, not exactly in a bad way though. It’s just… Why did he always flinch when someone hugged him? Why did he look so incredulous when someone offered him the smallest gesture of kindness? And most of all… why didn’t he talk…?
