Summary
She knew almost every empty face by name; she was their guardian sister, charged with their survival. They had looked up to her. Despite the thousands of lives she and Suvuna had saved, she felt an irrevocable guilt crushing in around her spirit. The red sun, which did little to bite through the frigid air, shone off a myriad of severed braids that lay scattered around the dead women. A few of them had fashioned blades from their tools, which they had used to slit their own throats before their hair was chopped and stolen from their heads. Most others were not fast or crafty enough, and their spirits had gone on to an empty and loveless hell.
