He felt like he was a child all over again when he was removed from Evermore. Begging and whining and sobbing to go back. He didn't want to leave his partner. He had nowhere else to go. Asking for something was unlike him, considering the Moriyamas had shown him he never had the right, but he couldn't help it.
Elías Nuñez expected to die that night. He had not expected to find consciousness in South Carolina.
But Jean told Elias he didn't have a place with the Ravens anymore, so he didn't. Jean sent him to become a Fox, so he would. It was fine.
Everything was always fine.
Or maybe it wasn't. Maybe it just would be, over time. Maybe Elias was so used to living underground in the darkness that he'd forgotten what the light could look like. Maybe it took all of a pathetic Exy team to make him realize he deserved to watch the sun rise too. And maybe a repressed blond twin needed to realize the same.

It didn't matter that, despite all of Barty's flings and fleeting relationships, it was Evan who Barty always clung to in the end; who Barty fake flirted with when he wasn't busy with anyone else; who made sure Barty was eating, sleeping, and breathing throughout their fifth year when he was determined on earning twelve goddamn O.W.L.s; who followed Barty to the ends of the Earth when he was bursting with anger toward his father; who entertained his recklessness while also ensuring aforementioned recklessness didn't go too far.
That didn't matter. None of it mattered, because none of it was real. None of it could be anyway.
And oh, how Evan doomed himself by thinking any of that at all.
