    Summary

Taking place many years after canon in an alternate universe in which there was no second rebellion, this series focuses on original characters (mainly victors) in an exploration of the world of Panem.

Each story can be read on its own, or as part of the series. The exception is "What Came Next" which is a direct sequel to "The Year After."

I ran out of room in this series description to include all the information I wanted (such as the preferred reading order, if you were interested in reading the entire thing), so I made a separate "work" to house information about this series:

    Bookmarker's Notes

so far, i absolutely love this series. i only read completed works because i have anxiety and need to read through stuff in one sitting, but i'm going to put my comments in this summary for the ones i've read. also, the author gave me a shoutout at the end of fic #4 (The Year After), and it cured my depression, so.

#1 (The Year After): OOF. this was the first one i read (clearly), and i was hooked. i read it in an afternoon (16 december 2020), and i fell in love. honestly, i almost forgot that this wasn't actually canon (but i could say that for this whole series). i especially liked juniper's and pitch's relationship, and the fact that it was not explicitly romantic. it felt like a trauma bond to me, honestly, but it was so incredibly interesting to watch them try to develop a healthy friendship after everything. also, ROSA! i may have teared up for like the entire last part of the story because holy crap, sooooo good!

#2 (A Collision of Past and Future): um, i loved this one too? once again, read it in an afternoon (17 december 2020). you can see the finish dates get closer and closer together because i was so invested. i really loved all three sisters by the end, which was honestly super surprising to me, considering how the beginning was. the pacing with regards to the memory loss was spot-on, and it flew by.

#3 (The Illusion of Life): HOLY COW, this one brought up so many emotions, and i'm still processing it (17 december 2020). not saying the others didn't, because they for sure did, but wow. if you've read these (or wrote them, hi!) you know what i mean. this one got me. i gotta sit with it, but man, it was so freaking good (i keep saying that, but it's honestly true).

#4 (What Came Next): okay, first of all, this author keeps saying that they don't know how to write romance, but they are CLEARLY MISTAKEN. as someone who's about juniper's age, the thought of a semi-functional romantic relationship with someone almost twice my age kinda creeped me out at first (ngl), but it WORKED. i was genuinely rooting for juniper to just realize her feelings already, and honestly, that's all a good romance is about. but it's not just romance in this one, and the (SPOILERS!!!) surprise adoptions of those ridiculous children were so amazing. also, the twists with quintus, AGH SO GOOD!!! i've ignored my visiting relatives all day (4 april 2021) to read this one, but holy cow was it worth it. i'm super excited to read the rest of the works in this ongoing series.

hopefully i'll add more as the additional works in this series are finished!

edit (26 June 2023): i'm still alive and have been reading these faithfully as they come out, don't worry haha. school has been time-consuming, but every once in a while, the posting schedule lines up with when i need an excuse to do nothing for a weekend and binge a work in this series. i've recommended this series to several of my friends who are new to the fanfic world, and i maintain that this is still one of the best series / works of art i have ever encountered. i always look forward to the next :)

    Bookmarker's Notes

once again, i'm trying to only read "completed" works for my own mental state, but holy cow is that a struggle for this series. i've only seen two episodes of supernatural, so i can't speak to whether it's in-character, but holy cow, these fics are good. the pacing is spectacular, the prose is evocative, and the character development is superb. i read the first three fics in two weeks, and i'm having to physically restrain myself from reading the fourth one until it's completed (i'll probably cave).
