If Sylvain is being honest with himself, he's not sure if any of them have been friends for years. They certainly aren't friends like they were as children - nothing is easy and carefree these days. Dimitri is more a caricature of a prince than a man, Ingrid has a wild look in her eye that Sylvain doesn't know how to deal with, and Felix barely speaks of anything but his sword. He doesn't know what to do about it, but they can't go on like this much longer.

"In what way?" he demands, louder than Felix had intended, but still too quiet compared to the buzz of alcohol in his brain. Sylvain's gaze flies up to meet his fiery own and Felix's hands shake around his cup. "In what way, Sylvain? We've all killed people we never wanted to. Why do you deserve to wallow in your own fucking misery any more than the rest of us?"

Felix doesn’t truly understand why, even now, though he knows exactly what could drive someone like him to deal with devils and forego their own humanity; no, what he doesn’t understand is why choosing his cold, constant company instead of the comfortable warmth of loneliness and detachment, but perhaps there is nothing to understand, and Sylvain is just as unhinged as Felix is.
In any case, they make for a perfect team, the both of them; Felix knows what monsters look like, and Sylvain knows all the ways they like to hide. "

When they were children, they gave a promise to each other. And promises are meant to be kept.
The story begins on the day the Blue Lions have to choose a dancer.
It loosely follows the canon Azure Moon route, but from Felix’s and Sylvain’s perspectives—and with a lot more... ehem... tension.
“Aww, Fe, all those threats, but you never—uhh.“
In hindsight, he wouldn’t be sure if it was the stupor induced by a significant lack of sleep, the alcohol tipping the scales of courage, some sort of divine or demonic intervention, or just Sylvain, that had him lean forward, close the last remaining distance between them, and press his lips to the taller man’s. But one thing was for sure: it shut him up. Effectively.
I'd consider the rating of this fic M+.
There are spicy/smut scenes ahead! (Some chapters might lean a bit more toward an R rating.)
I'll give you a heads-up at the start of any spice-heavy chapters so you can skip them if you're uncomfortable with that kind of content.
