“No.” Jake tips his head to the side, baring his neck. He smiles. “This is me letting you win.”

“You’re more beautiful than I thought you would be,” Jaeyun blurts. He immediately wants to drop dead from mortification. But Sunoo doesn’t laugh at him. Instead he lets out a giggle, his cheeks pinking.
“You are the most handsome person I’ve seen,” he says earnestly.

“He died in the war, and I never saw him again," Sunghoon recounts, memories echoing painfully against the walls of his chest. "He was pierced by an enemy’s arrow mid-battle, and succumbed to his wounds shortly after.”
There's a long silence. “All I asked was if you’ve ever had a crush on a guy before,” Sunoo utters. His mouth is hanging open, face contorted into what can either be interpreted as shock or derision.
Sunghoon coughs. “Right. Sorry.”

“It’s… a lot.” Greg pauses, trying to sound like he’s thinking, but also, maybe, actually thinking. “It’s kind of trying too hard.” He looks at Tom, who doesn’t meet his gaze. Steely eyes are still stuck on the painting. Greg searches for something positive to say, in case Tom needs a stamp of approval. “But I like that it’s also a bit, I guess… violent.” He brings his fist weakly into his hand as he says this, a soft smack echoing around the empty room.
At this, Tom looks over, eyes trained on Greg’s hands. He meets his gaze, flicks up to his gelled hair, trails back down.
“You know, Greg, this piece is called 'The Lovers.' Our esteemed artist would surely weep at your misanthropic interpretation of his virile men.”

So he thought that look might still be there, now. A year later. But no. He’d killed that Greg. Taken him out to a field and slaughtered him; sacrificed him to the wolves. Briefly, the thought was gut-churning. Briefly.
