Summary
Around St. Peter’s stand the glittering glass buildings of the financial district, an area Kitty had little reason to visit when she was growing up—the West End had been her haunt, and the streets around Camden Market and Hackney: tiny, expensive restaurants with Uncle Jonathan; tiny restaurants with dirt cheap drinks in the company of girls whose names she hardly remembers. Pretty, airy girls, in skirts and floaty blouses, girls with money who thought slumming it was thrilling. Kitty pretending it didn’t make something in her chest ache, just like the London skyline did after a long absence.

Summary
Clement heard Eamon’s boots pound down the front steps, and by the time that faded the house had settled into the quiet that would occupy it until mid January: the humming refrigerator, a ticking clock, the creaking wood of the walls around him like the ribcage of some great beast.

Summary
By the time the matter of the house’s ownership had been settled—Lady Desault had sold it to Lord Scurlock, who had left it to Clement, who then gifted it to Lord Desault, who had by then been declared officially dead for two years (it was, generally speaking, a mess)—but by the time all that had been settled, it was Gratitude.

Summary
Tea at Lady Desault's had begun as a social event and become a chance to share information. The biscuits were always lovely. The tea was always lovely. Thinking about disassembling the Order of the Rising Tide criminal by criminal, and throwing Lady Scurlock into Ironhook for the rest of her days, was also always lovely.

Summary
Richard had a girlfriend named Katrina—who, granted, was Canadian and no one had ever met, but he’d gone to visit her last summer, and he was regularly heard talking to her on the phone. He was also friends with John Tiercel, who’d been voted Best Dressed three years running, destroyed the opposition at every debate, and had a habit of dating the most popular girls at school. And he was friends with Clement Thorn, who was hands down the weirdest kid at school, and who for some unfathomable reason owned a sailboat, which was great for parties Uriah didn’t get invited to.
And then there were the rumors about all of them.

Summary
All these years later, and Daisy’s just now realizing: Ivan didn’t make her indestructible. Not really. Long-lived, yes, but the way she felt before Pearl, and George, and the open mouth of the scissor blades—that wasn’t indestructibility, just emptiness. The dusty remains of a life she’d half forgotten, withered clean away. Loss upon loss upon loss. Trying to fill the empty space with blood and new places until it felt like she had.

Summary
“It won’t work, long-term,” Wolfgang says as they move through security again. “Keeping him unconscious all the time. He might as well be dead.” He’s talking about Will, of course. He’s talking about the gaping space in the back of Sun’s head that is no doubt mirrored in his, an emptiness like a part of her has been torn away. It hurts, but Sun has gotten very good at ignoring pain, at subsuming it into a greater purpose. One fist clenches around the handle of her carry-on.
“I agree,” she says. "Now what should we do about it?"

Summary
Elliot’s so caught up wondering why why why that there’s no time to actually ask the question. He’s too busy packing his shirts, and making sure he has enough socks, and his toothbrush, and his laptop. As an afterthought, he grabs the glasses he found in Tyrell’s car and slides them into his duffel, and then he’s done: that’s everything he needs.

Summary
She is beginning to feel ill at ease in her body. It is hers now, irrevocably, but it doesn't quite fit anymore; when she wakes in the morning she sometimes feels as though she could step out of it entirely. Not into the net, or another plane of existence, just… out. Into something new? Maybe. She hasn’t quite figured it out yet.
