"I want this," She says, plainly, "And it's fine if you don't. I understand. But if you're only holding back because you think I'll regret it in the morning…" She trails off, racks her brain for something to soothe Rio's overworking brain with, "Rio, I'm green."
It takes a minute for Rio to answer—brain quite obviously cracking and sparking, but then, "You want this." They say in a way that sounds more like a realization sinking in than a question.
And so Agatha, just to make Rio laugh, tilts her head so she's not speaking into the mattress, "What's a little bondage between friends?"

Agatha barks out a laugh. “What?”
“Has she touched you.”
Even after all these years, Agatha almost can’t believe the gall. Rio’s bluntness, her confidence, her arrogance, has always been something that Agatha found attractive. But now that they’ve fallen apart, it’s something that gets on her nerves. Makes her want to knock her down a couple of pegs.
“Yes,” Agatha says simply. Not a lie. Definitely not a half truth.

Agatha laughs so hard while putting her CD in her knapsack she does her signature snort. Rio’s heart flutters at that. “Be serious. We’re both high. You didn’t see shit.”

“Hey!” It’s at this that Rio notices that not only is this woman prancing around in her underwear near open windows, but the window is a little cracked, making Rio able to hear this woman crystal clearly. “What do you think you’re—”
Rio’s mouth opens to say something, anything— working really hard to not look like a fish out of water— but her wheelbarrow hits a stray rock in Lilia’s yard and she falls headfirst into the pile of literal dirt.

Summary
The blow comes out of nowhere, a breathtaking impact from what Rio will quickly discover to have been the flat of a shovel against her side, sending her sprawling into the dirt.
“You have five seconds to explain yourself,” comes the voice of her assailant from somewhere above her, a vague blob in the dim evening light. “Or I’m calling the police.”
“Wait! Please!” Rio gasps, fumbling to tap at her phone screen until the flashlight comes on, and then—whoa. The night is dark and full of gorgeous, shovel-wielding terrors, apparently. Dark hair, blue eyes, miles and miles of smooth skin exposed by the floral robe tied haphazardly around her. The sight alone is almost worth the wicked bruising that Rio can quite literally feel herself developing. “I swear I’m not some creep.”
The woman looming over her supine form snorts inelegantly. “That’s what they all say.”

Agatha finds Rio hiding from her ex in her azaleas and chaos ensues.
Things get even more awkward when Rio discovers that the woman who smacked her with a shovel in the dead of night is going to be a guest lecturer at her university for the semester.
But hey, that’s just life in Westview.

Rio knows, with a certainty carved down to the place where she’s raw, unfinished, where the ancient Greeks used to say their gods tore whole souls in two, cursing mortals to spend their flickering, candle flame lives searching for the other halves of their spirits, that she’ll get the chance to ask Agatha this question again.

Agatha’s demolishing a bowl of pasta from the Italian place down the road that’s good enough to justify their eye-watering menu prices when the door to her office swings open, allowing—of all people—her gorgeous girlfriend to step inside. Filled with an absolutely sickening sense of déjà vu, Agatha fumbles for her phone. Unfortunately, it’s too late. Getting caught with her hand down her pants while watching a shitty porno with an equally shitty pun-based title like Saving Ryan’s Privates or something just as shitty and dumb would’ve been less humiliating than this. By a wide, wide, wide margin.
Rio pauses after shutting the door behind her. She tilts her head in confusion, very much resembling a puppy failing to stick out its paws as their owner tries to do the wall test on them. Agatha wants to bounce her own head off the wall.
“Were you—”
“No.”
“I mean, it sure sounded like—”
“I wasn’t.”
“Agatha.” The corners of Rio’s mouth twitch, threatening to break into a smile. “Were you watching my mukbang videos over lunch?”

Summary
She’s always been a greedy thing, after all. Hungry, wanting. Grasping for more than she deserves, especially for things that so rarely come freely. Like the quicksilver joy that flashes through Agatha’s veins when Rio tugs her clothes back into place and lets her hands linger. Or the golden warmth that settles all the way down in her bones like river silt when Rio smiles at her so sweetly that crinkles appear in the corners of her eyes, right before she moves in for a kiss. It settles some of the awful, corrosive anger that lives in Agatha’s chest, the coal seam fire of you will never be good enough to matter that drives her so hard and pushes her so far.
And at the core of it all is the simple fact that Agatha has never been able to let anything go easy, good or bad or downright ugly though it may be. She leans into every decision she makes like it’s her last, and this is no different. Triumph or failure, Agatha Harkness never does anything by halves.
If this unnameable, intangible thing with Rio is a cliff, Agatha’s already flung herself well over the edge.
