Summary

That is, however, until an unexpected development takes them by storm. Suddenly facing the unknown once more, can the two of them rely on one another and help each other realise that they are more then capable of taking this on? Only time will tell.

“Sit behind me,” Elphaba instructs, gesturing to her broom. She expects hesitation, expects that Fiyero will question his own safety, or the prudence of being in close proximity to the Witch. She half expects that he will come to his senses and change his mind entirely, find a way to return to the charmed Palace life he’s been leading.
Instead he does exactly as told, the broom dipping only slightly before the magic adjusts to accommodate his added weight. “Can I hold onto you?”
“Probably should, if you don’t want to fall off,” she agrees, catching her breath when he immediately wraps both arms around her waist.
“Go,” he says firmly, close enough that his breath tickles her ear.

Elphaba can’t ponder it for long because another cramp takes over then, robbing her of the ability to think. It can’t be more than a minute or two, but to her it feels like it will never end, and it’s rather fitting that she’s ended up kneeling at the side of the bed like this because for the first time in many years, she finds herself saying some kind of a prayer.
Please let this end. Please don’t let me die here, alone and having accomplished nothing.

“Good, Witch,” Elphaba hissed, her voice sharp and low, venom dripping from every syllable. She leaned closer, breath fogging the glass, eyes locked on the thing looking back at her. “Even uglier now.”
Her skin was an even more terrible shade of green, her body was only a sack of bones and her flesh had been torn so many times that—
“What are you saying?” he asked, voice rough. “Why are you saying something like that, Fae?”
Her lips pressed together, and the disgust returned to her features like muscle memory.
“It’s the first time I’m seeing this," her hand gestured vaguely toward her side, toward the uneven scar that cut across the soft plane of her ribs. “It’s hideous."
She didn’t notice Fiyero crossing the room until she could feel him — his warmth, his breath, the faint shift in the air.
“Elphaba,” he said softly, his voice like something sacred. “Nothing about you is hideous.”

when Elphaba can't believe Fiyero's words about her worth, he must prove just how beautiful she is - physically, because he wants to worship his love the same way a follower worships their faith. And, oh; it's been so long since she was his.
