No matter how far away Renjun has seemed in the last few months, no matter how much he has made Donghyuck hurt for him, Donghyuck will always love him, just like this, hard and aching, endless and endless and endless. “I love you so much, I feel-” he takes a shuddering breath, feeling punch drunk, like he could jump into the air and never come down, like he’s falling and falling all over again for the beautiful boy in front of him. “I love you, Jun-ah.”
“I love you too,” Renjun whispers and his eyes are glossy all of a sudden. “I love you so, so much it scares me sometimes.” He leans up, pressing their foreheads together and Donghyuck’s eyes flutter shut.

Donghyuck nods. "Well, I hope to see you back sometime, Renjun." He smiles. "You have to get rid of all the strawberry milkshakes that no one ever orders."
"Ahh, I've caught onto your plan," Renjun says knowingly. "You just want to make money off me, don't you?"
Donghyuck takes a step towards him. If it had been anyone else, Renjun would have snapped to attention, would have readied himself for a fight, would have responded to a decade of training that had taught him to be ready for attack at any time. But for some reason, he doesn't feel that with Donghyuck. How strange. "With that smile, sweetheart," Donghyuck says, an echo of earlier that evening, hand hovering in the air as if to touch Renjun’s face before it drops back down. Donghyuck smiles. "You can have anything you want for free."

The first album of the band, Three years before the end, was released exactly one year, three months and twenty-three days after Donghyuck broke up with Renjun.
Deep inside, he had expected Renjun to have fallen in love with a dozen different people in the time they were apart.

Summary
Jaemin grabs the top of the partition between their stalls and kicks one leg up to scramble onto the toilet tank, hoisting himself up high enough to look over the barrier between the stalls.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the light of my life and the fire of my loins.” It doesn’t even really matter which one is which. Jeno looks up wide-eyed and wet-lipped, now dropped onto his knees with Renjun’s belt wrapped around his hand. Renjun quickly follows Jeno’s eyes until he’s wearing a matching deer-in-headlights look, blinking behind the (empty) frames of his glasses.
“Oh, hey. What’s up?” Jeno smiles up at him, and Jaemin smiles back. Renjun seems shaken by the way they’re opting to have this conversation.

“For people that deserve bad news, I can be,” Donghyuck said. A car outside beeped, and a driver waved. Their taxi. He walked towards the door, catching Renjun’s hand and tugging gently. “For you? I think I’d be whatever you want.”

Summary
There's a chance that Jaemin will never reach out, never offer Jeno the branch he needs to let go, and maybe Jeno will just have to keep those feelings to himself, to ache with it the way Renjun does, to simmer with it until he either burns from the inside out and gives in or fizzles out and gives up.
It's a perverse sort of wish, one that leads him to wonder how and when he's become such a selfish person, and in the end it doesn't matter. Jaemin makes the first move. Jeno won't have to agonize the way Renjun has.
Jaemin kisses him that night while Renjun is upstairs puking his guts out in the porcelain bowl.

Summary
Donghyuck wonders if Renjun feels it too. He wonders if he's plagued by dreams and memories of things that couldn't have happened and yet he's sure have. He wonders if Renjun remembers the way they kissed before—wherever, whenever that was. It's still hazy, very much so, but Donghyuck understands better now.
He wonders if Renjun is drawn to him too without knowing why.
Or maybe he's telling the truth. He doesn't want Donghyuck.
Maybe there's no happy ending here either.

"It was lonely," Jeno says honestly. "And I didn't realize how lonely it was until now. I didn't realize how small my world was until I stepped outside of it."
"It can be lonely out here too," Jaemin comments mildly.
And again, Jeno knocks the breath out of Jaemin when he says, without hesitation, "I haven't felt lonely since I met you."
Jaemin opens himself up a little more, hoping Jeno doesn't hear the way his voice shakes when he replies, "Yeah. Me either."
