Because that's what you're meant to do, when people make a mistake. You forgive them. You move on. They get a second chance. (Or a third, or a tenth, or a hundredth - )
Trinity has just never understood why some people get to come back from mistakes and other people don't.

Summary
In the past two years, they've worked through every menu item at the American Diner, most of them twice. Sophia won honorable mention for her catapult at her school's science fair. Carol's taking classes over at Dalton State, thirty credits into her associate's. Daryl is content to watch them both, a glow and a buzz in his chest every time he sees how high they can go. He's accepted, two years in, that he's theirs. And they're his. Their own little, cobbled-together family.
And he's not letting anybody take that away from them.

"How are people gonna sign your cast?" the girl asks. "If it's all black?"
"Um. Dunno. S’okay,” Daryl says awkwardly when it becomes clear she’s waiting for some kind of response. “Ain’t like - don’t really think nobody’ll wanna sign it anyway. So."
Instead of getting the kid to let up, this statement seems to somehow capture her interest. She uncurls in the chair a little, looking at him with a wide-open face. “Why not?"
But he’s saved from having to answer that by Carol the desk lady, who breaks into a little half-run when she sees Daryl waiting. “Sorry, sorry - just had to step away for a moment, sorry about that, Daryl.”
“S’fine,” Daryl mumbles. She doesn’t have to apologize to him for taking a piss or whatever, good Lord.

Summary
They found the prison. They cleared it. That makes it theirs. Doesn't it?
Carol hopes so. Sophia's not so sure. But Daryl will show them. They've found a place. A safe place, finally. What they've been looking for all winter. It's going to work out, this time. Rick's going to settle down, Lori's going to have her baby, and they're all going to be able to build something for themselves. Something good.
Daryl's going to make sure of it.

When Tony made an off-hand comment about adopting a child, he never expected Steve would jump on the idea so quickly. He definitely didn't expect to adopt two kids. And even if they did expect to love them dearly, they weren't ready for the fierce protectiveness that raged within them for their boys. They couldn't save them from the past, but they could protect them from the future and whatever dared to threaten their safety.
Through fostering Harley and Peter, Steve and Tony learn a lot from them, who have experienced more than any child ever should. But they have something to teach the boys themselves: family doesn't end in blood.
