“Claremont-Diaz,” Henry’s voice comes out as a broken sob, fingers clutching what’s certainly a cracked rib. His gun remains outstretched toward the familiar rugged cowboy in front of him, his thumb grazing the hammer as he limps forward a step.
Alex spits on the ground from where he stands a few feet away, wiping the back of his hand on his busted lip. Blood smears across the hollow of his cheek. He’s mirroring Henry’s pose, gun outstretched and pointed right at Henry’s head from a few feet away.
“You actually goin’ to tell me this time, sweetheart?” He winks, Henry noticing it even under the shadow of the Stetson atop his head. Alex’s subsequent grin is spectacular and devastating. Henry’s poor fucking heart might leap right out of his rasping throat.
Henry winces and cocks the hammer.
Henry Fox is free for the first time in his life.
Alex Claremont-Diaz is still the cowboy pointing a gun at his head.

His husband’s gaze is open and warm, making him feel safe in that way only Alex ever can. It’s enough to make his heart beat faster in his chest, his brain finally slows down to a low hum. They can do this, as long as they’re together.
In lieu of an answer, he grabs Alex’s hat, ignoring his protests, and plops it onto his own head, tipping up the brim with a grin.

“Oh, bloody-” He leans over to put his drink on the table and starts wiping at his shirt. “No, I’m- It’s not that, it’s-” He glances fleetingly at the stranger and then down at his shirt again, before his brain finally registers that oh, glasses, dark curls, white smile, exposed chest. Henry’s head snaps back up and his lips part in astonishment. Handsome doesn’t even begin to cover it. Him.
“Hi,” the man says, then chuckles. He hands Henry a napkin and gestures towards one of the other chairs at the table. “Would you mind?”
