Summary
Warriors was pretty certain the Four Sword carried more potential than Four used it for - it just required someone with the right level of self-discipline. Surely it wouldn't hurt to give it a test while no one else was around, right? If his selves didn't turn out to be as useful as he expected, he'd merge back together, and no one would ever have to know.
It doesn't go as planned.

From the beginning, Warriors had known it was only temporary. They had all known; after the adventure was over, it was inevitable that they'd have to part ways and return to their own times.
He had known, and he had been ready for it, keeping it in the back of his head from start to finish.
But he missed them.

He missed being Warriors.
(He was fine.)
He couldn't do this.

Summary
Link had experienced many strange things during the War Across the Ages. This portal-based travel thing wasn't exactly new to him. Neither was meeting more Links, heroes sharing the same spirit across eras.
Doing it while being a horse, however... Now THAT was new.
AKA Warriors gets cursed to be a horse right before dropping through a portal into another era.

When the Four Sword gets a crack in it, Four starts to crack too. The colors find themselves, for the first time in their life, alone.
AKA the colors start getting individual control over Four with no memory of what the other colors do when they're in control. Chaos ensues, and everyone in the Chain is seriously worried that Four has lost his mind.
