"Does it ever get easy enough that you stop feeling anything at all?" Dazai asked.
Chuuya's eyes were dark, thoughtful. "No," he said finally. "If it does, that's when you've lost yourself. That's when you become a monster."
"And are you a monster?"
Chuuya's smile was sad, soft. "Ask me again in ten years."
Dazai squeezed his hand and didn't let go.

The words were possessive and protective and terrifying and wonderful all at once. Dazai looked up at Chuuya, at this man who had pinned him to the ground with a knife to his throat and was now putting explosives on his jewellery, and he felt something crack open in his chest.

Fisting his hands in the fabric of his skirt, Dazai rounds out, “I don’t know what you mean. I’m not scared of you.”

That makes Dazai hesitate, marinating in embarrassment under Ranpo’s knowing gaze. He has heard-- admittedly a lot. Conflicting things. Troubling things. Very interesting things that keep him up at night, like what Poe said Ranpo can do with his tongue. But more importantly…
“Kunikida-kun says he thinks you’re in a gang.”
“That’s swell,” Ranpo says, “How much do you weigh?”
Dazai balks, off-put and thoroughly annoyed at being ignored as he pointedly avoids Ranpo’s question in turn, “Are you?”
“I bet I could bench you. I bet I could do all kinds of-”
“Don’t say that!” Dazai huffs loudly, grimacing internally at just how whiny it comes out.
Ranpo raises his eyebrows at him. “Why? Are you shy, princess?”
